Dear Parents,
Congratulations! Your child is starting their second year of a three-year journey into the world of foreign languages. This year, we will be focusing on Spanish and exploring the cultures of the countries that speak it. Last year, your child had the chance to study five different languages and cultures, giving them a glimpse into the languages of the world.
Now, we’re focusing solely on Spanish because it’s not only useful but also a popular choice for high school language courses. Think of this year as a first step toward Spanish I.
Here’s what we’ll be covering in our seven-week study of Spanish I:
General greetings, simple phrases, and the history and culture of Mexico.
Asking permission, personal pronouns, and the Mexican school system.
Classroom vocabulary, articles/gender, and the history of Mexican independence.
Body parts, colors, and the history and culture of Honduras.
Please note that the goal of this class isn’t to make your child fluent in Spanish. We are using these seven weeks to explore the language and introduce your child to the different cultures and people of the Spanish-speaking world. I’m committed to making the lessons fun, energetic, and exciting! My hope is that this class, along with their entire language-learning journey, will spark a love for language and culture that will last a lifetime.
I’m excited to help your child dive deeper into Spanish and its rich cultures, and I look forward to a great year!
Sincerely,
Mr. Hinks
