Students will study four areas of science content in the fifth grade: Organisms and their Environment, Energy: Conservation and Transfer, Structure: Properties and Interactions of Matter, and Changing Earth. These content areas are largely instructed through an inquiry based approach to learning complete with experiments and investigations. We will continue to use Project Lead the Way and Engineering is Elementary this school year. Further, an emphasis is placed on Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) activities that adhere to the Next Generation Science Standards adopted by Pennsylvania.
Students will be required to keep interactive notebooks during science lessons and complete assignments that correspond to experiments and investigations. These materials will be used to prepare for tests and quizzes.
