Student-Athlete Rules and Guidelines for Athletics
As an athlete I am expected to abide by the following guidelines:
to apply myself to my studies and maintain to the best of my ability
to earn satisfactory grades with a minimum GPA of 2.0 with no more than 1 F, as per District policy
to be enrolled in a minimum of five classes (20 semester units).
SACMAL League Rules for Eligibility
Academic/Scholastic eligibility is a 2.0 grade point average, and no more than one “F” grade. A student shall not participate in any athletic event if he/she has not met the above requirement. The student who does not meet this requirement is scholastically ineligible.
Eligibility is determined from grade after each official grading period (Quarter, Semester) and not weekly progress reports, or progress reports. For playing contests, one grading period does not end until the next one begins.
How to Register & Complete a Student Athlete Packet in Sports Net

2. Click the Create an Account link near the bottom of the screen
3. Enter the required information and submit the form
4. Log in to the system with your email address and password

Before You Begin
Make sure you have the following prior to attempting to register your child:
Your child’s CVUSD student identification number
The exact spelling of your child’s first and last name as it appears in official school records. You can check your official records through Aeries Parent Portal.
Your child’s active health insurance coverage information, including the name of the provider and the policy ID. If you do not have medical insurance coverage for your student, you must purchase Student Insurance. See District website http://www.cv.k12.ca.us/parents/student-insurance for an application and instructions.
Registration Process: Be sure to carefully read the instructions on each screen and provide all required information. If you are unable to finish in a single session, the information you have already submitted will be saved and you can log back in at a later time to finish.
Important: The school will not receive your submission until you complete the entire process, ending with your final electronic signature on the last available screen. Be sure to check your email for a confirmation message after you have finished. Please be aware that submission of your child’s athletic packet does not grant instant clearance.
Support
For further or specific information about your child's registration, please contact Athletic Director Craig Nieves at cnieves@cv.k12.ca.us.
For general assistance, please email the Sports Net support team at support@sportsnetinc.com. Their first available representative will get back to you shortly.
THE ONLY WAY TO PARTICIPATE IN THE TRYOUT PROCESS IS TO HAVE A CLEARED ATHLETIC PACKET COMPLETE PRIOR TO THE THE FIRST TRYOUT DATE.
Canyon Athletics Tryout Process
After students have been cleared through Sports Net and identified the dates of tryouts for their chosen sports through the Student Bulletin and announcements, they must attend all tryouts dates in order to be considered for the team.
A RUBRIC is used to evaluate athletes during the tryout process with a rating in 5 categories:
Technical Skills, Tactical Abilities, Physical Abilities, Sportsmanship, and Competitiveness.
After tryouts are over, all participating athletes will receive an email indicating if they have made the team. Coaches will reach out with practice & game schedules and any additional information they want to share. Each season, we also hold a Season Sports/Athletic Boosters Meeting that all athletes and families of that season are invited and encouraged to attend.
Canyon Athletic Contribution
Once your athlete makes a Canyon team, we request an athletic contribution of $100 per athlete, per sport played, due at the time of the first team email or before the first team practice. Families can make this donation online at our Canyon Webstore or by check made out to Canyon Middle School.
Athletic contributions do not determine eligibility to try out for sports at Canyon; all students are welcome. However, athletic contributions are an important part of Canyon Athletics and funds collected are used to supplement minimal district funding for officials, uniforms, equipment, etc.
Canyon Athletic Boosters
If you’re able, additional monetary or volunteer time donations to support Canyon’s Athletic Boosters program are always welcome. You can also join the Boosters - Standard Membership is $40, Family Membership is $160, and Sponsor Membership is $300 - but these do not take the place of individual athletic contribution.
The goal of Canyon's Athletics Booster Club's is to support all four seasons of Canyon sports teams.
They offer a variety of ways people can lend a hand, and they encourage everyone to participate whether in concessions or merchandise sales, fundraising, volunteer coordinating, and/or event planning. Through the donations of both time and finances, they are able to build a community of our sports families, as well as provide our Canyon athletes with the best quality of uniforms and equipment. There are so many benefits to participating in school sports for kids, and Canyon Boosters is a great way for families to get involved with our school!
