Girls Soccer Tryouts
Hi and welcome to Canyon Soccer!
A rubric is used to evaluate athletes during the tryout process with a rating in 5 categories: Technical Skills Tactical Abilities, Physical Abilities, Sportsmanship, and Competitiveness.
After tryouts are over, all participating athletes will receive an email indicating if they have made the team. Once your athlete makes a Canyon team, we request an athletic contribution of $100 per athlete, per sport played, due at the time of the email or before the first team practice. Families can make this donation online at our Canyon Webstore or by check made out to Canyon Middle School. If you’re able, additional monetary or volunteer time donations to support Canyon’s Athletic Boosters program are always welcome.
Tryouts begin:
Wednesday 8/13: 2:30-4:30
Thursday 8/14: 3:30-5:30
Friday 8/15: 3:30-5:30
You must attend all tryout dates to have an opportunity to make the team.
**Please wear appropriate athletic attire and bring water bottles to every tryout.**

Student-Athletes require the following to participate in Tryouts

Academic Standing: minimum 2.00 GPA and no more than one “F” grade
Appropriate athletic attire, cleated shoes, shin guards, water and/or snack. If it is raining, bring an
additional pair of flat-soled athletic shoes (for the gym or blacktop)
Student-athletes must bring water, bronchodilator (for asthma, etc.), contact lenses or sports
goggles, and any other items appropriate for them personally to engage in athletic activity
Forming the Team
One team is formed of 17-19 student-athletes representing all three grades
Environmental Conditions
Tryouts will proceed if there is light rain. Extreme environmental conditions—excessive heat or
rain, lightning, wildfire smoke, etc.—will result in moving the tryout indoors to the gym where flat-
soled athletic shoes will be required. Any changes to the schedule listed above will be
communicated to parents and guardians.
Schedule Conflicts
Occasionally there is a schedule conflict between Canyon soccer tryouts and a student-athlete’s
club soccer practice. In this case, parents and guardians are asked to contact the Canyon soccer
coach to devise a solution.
