Algebra

Welcome to seventh grade Algebra! This class is a study of the language, concepts, and techniques of Algebra where you will develop powerful mathematical tools and learn new ways of thinking about and investigating mathematical situations. You will be using your sense-making, reasoning, arguing, explaining, critiquing, and modeling skills to develop both a conceptual as well as procedural understanding of mathematics. My goal is for all of you to develop a growth mindset approach to mathematics focused on individual effort, strategic thinking, and group work that will prepare you for success in upper level math and science courses as well as to deal effectively with mathematical situations you will encounter in real life. The curriculum will incorporate the Common Core Algebra Standards and a few standards from the Common Core 8th Grade standards. The textbook for the course is Core Connections Algebra from College Preparatory Mathematics(CPM). The main purpose of the course is to develop your fluency with linear, quadratic and exponential functions. Some of the overarching ideas in the course include: the notion of function, solving equations, rates of change and growth patterns, graphs as representations of functions, and modeling.
