SWIC Competitions (FOUR total!)

There are four meets set up at _______________________.  All students take the same test, but every student competes with other students of the same grade level.  NO CALCULATORS are allowed for the individual tests, but are allowed for the team tests.  Freshman are not expected to score high, but they are all competing against other freshman.  Seniors are expected to score very highly.  There are individual awards and team awards for this competition.  We usually leave during last period (2:45) to head down there.  Competitions start at 4:00 and get over around 6:00.  We get back to CHS close to 7:00.  The dates for this competition are Monday September 19th, Monday, October 3rd, Monday October 17th, and Monday October 24th .  Parental permission slips will need to be signed to attend.

Excellence in Mathematics Competition

This competition is at St. Louis Community College at Forest Park from 9:00AM - 2:00 PM on Saturday, November 5th, 2022.  This test will be 20 multiple choice questions, and no calculators are allowed.  Everyone takes the same test.  The first 10 questions are standard math team problems, but problems 11 - 20 get much more intense as it progresses.  Pretty much any one can go, but a max of 10 students per grade level can attend.  We will leave the high school at 7:45AM and return by 2:45PM.  We have eaten at Pi Pizza in St. Louis in the past.  I pay!

AMC Competition

This test is on Thursday, November 10th, 2022 at CHS.   It is similar to the "Excellence in Mathematics Competition" above, but tougher since this is a national test!

ICTM Regional Competition

This is THE MAIN competition of the year.  If we win or score high enough at regionals, then we advance to the STATE COMPETITION!  Regionals will  be on  Saturday, February 25th, 2023 at SIUE. This competition truly requires a full team to compete.  There are individual tests based on grade level, 8-person team tests, 2-person team tests, and a calculator team test.  To have an effective team, we need 8 students per grade level to make this happen.

Carbondale Math Field Day

This is a one day competition at SIU Carbondale on ___________________Students will miss the entire day.  This test is like the SWIC test in that every student takes the same exam and NO CALCULATORS of ANY KIND are permitted!   We will return to CHS by 5:00 PM

ICTM State Competition

IF we are lucky and smart enough to win Regionals in February, then we will advance to State.  State will TENTIVELY be Saturday, April 22nd, 2023 at Illinois State University in Bloomington.  We will leave EARLY EARLY EARLY to get up there...how early, you may ask?  How's 5:30AM work for you?  Yeah, that early.  We will get back no later than 9:00PM that night.
