Frequently Asked Questions
What should I bring to class?
Preferably a 3-ring binder for your notes and blank paper
Your Chromebook for online access to the geometry textbook
Your calculator (a TI-30'ish calculator is fine this year!)
What's your late work policy?
Late homework = 60% credit. 60% is better than 0%, right???
All late work is due BEFORE the day of the chapter test.
Do you offer extra credit???
I rarely offer extra credit, but IF I do then it's available to the entire class OR it's a prize for a competition. Please, do not ask for extra credit :)
"Million Words or Less" is an extra credit opportunity that you have to give to a parent/guardian to complete for you.
How are things graded in here?
Tests = 50%
Quizzes = 25%
Homework & Projects = 15%
Chapter Portfolio = 10%
You must maintain at least a B (80%) average to take Honors math next year!
What are rules on phones, bathroom, etc.?
If we're talking about something math related in class, you should NOT be working/looking at your Chromebook.
No phones! In down times at the end of class, I encourage you to actually talk with your classmates at an acceptable noise level :)
If you need to go to the bathroom during class, we are implementing the new digital hall passes this year (SmartPass),
As long as it's not in the middle of me teaching or we're about to discuss something very important, I'll typically let you go.
sign up for the two things below!
1) Remind
Download the Remind App on your phone.
Use the class code @mrgpreap to join.
This is the easiest way to talk with me outside of class.
This is a service that parents/guardians can sign up for, too!
I also use ParentSquare and Google Classroom to send out messages, too.
2) Big Ideas Geometry eBook
Go to bigideasmath.com.
IF you used Big Ideas last year, then you will NOT have to create a new account, but you will need to successfully login to your account. If you cannot remember your username/password, request to reset them, and I will have to give you a temporary password to use.
IF you did NOT use Big Ideas last year, then click on "New to Bigideasmath.com? Register" to start creating a new account.
For "Student ID", I would recommend using the first part of your cusd email address (not the @cusd.kahoks.org part) followed by your actual student ID number. For example, John Smith with student ID number 123456 could say his "student ID" in Big Ideas is "jsmith123456". I will get a temporary password for you which I will have to email you with.
For those with an account already, you will just need to enter the access code: 7GN8-AX54-Z3ZG
Take a picture of your password or write it down somewhere safe.
