The TRIO Upward Bound (UB) and Upward Bound Math & Science (UBMS) Programs are funded by the US Department of Education as a way of helping students from Low Income or First Generation (neither parent has 4-year bachelor's degree) families prepare for college. We have year long programming that provide students with study skills, financial aid help, community building, and a ton of fun along the way! During the school year we have advisors at all of our target schools who meet with student's regularly to work through high school and plan for their undergraduate future. During the summer our students live on The College of St. Scholastica campus for 5 weeks as a college immersion program.
Our students will learn a ton! From financial aid, to choosing careers and colleges, our staff take a holistic approach to preparing students for life after high school. We also provide a fun and safe community for students to share their journey with. During the school year they will attend weekly meetings and monthly Saturday Sessions, and during the summer we expect our students to live on campus!
Upward Bound helps all students prepare for college, whereas Upward Bound Math & Science helps specifically with students interested in STEM careers. We are also at different schools, most of your schools will have one or the other!
Using the links at the top of this page you can access our applications. Since we are federally funded we must collect some data from students and parents, and some financial information for eligibility purposes. In the application, students will have to answer some essay-like questions as well!
Weekly school meetings, meetings range in time from short check-ins to longer discussions (very dependent on schedule!)
Monthly Saturday Sessions, these sessions gather all UB/UBMS participants for fun, learning, and large group activities.
6-Week Summer Program, for 9-11th graders. This summer program consists of exploratory classes, fun, games, and field trips, all tailored to get you ready to live in college in the future. Students will live on CSS campus during the week, and back home Sat and Sun.
