Members will be recognized for their continued dedication at the Honors Night Ceremony at the end of the year.
Current Member Criteria
To remain a member of the ASFMS Honor Society, the following criteria must be met for Quarters 1, 2, and 3.
1. Academic
Maintain High Honors (A- or higher in all classes)
2. Discipline
Accrue no more than five discipline infractions per school year

Community Service:
Complete 20 hours of documented community service between their induction date as a seventh grader and March 31st of their 8th grade year
Community service must be documented on the ASFMS Honor Society log sheet and signed by an adult supervising their service. A letter from the supervisor or organization verifying community service hours will also suffice. Community service is considered anything performed for the benefit of others without receiving compensation. ASFMS Honor Society advisors will notify members of community service in the school or community whenever possible. Any student requiring assistance finding or completing service should see an advisor as soon as possible.
Failure to complete the required community service hours by the deadline will result in dismissal.
Dismissal and Appeal:
Dismissal - The ASFMS Honor Society has very rigorous criteria and expectations. The Faculty Council will review current members’ eligibility at the conclusion of each quarter. Whenever possible and applicable, members will receive a written warning when they near the limits of eligibility criteria. Members will be formally dismissed from the ASFMS Honor Society in writing for the following:
Failure to maintain eligibility criteria including…
Not meeting academic criteria during any quarter
More than five discipline infractions per year
Out-of-School Suspension
More than 10 unexcused absences
Failure to complete the required community service hours
Appeal - The Faculty Council takes care to review each student’s unique situation before dismissal from NJHS. Students wishing to appeal a dismissal may first conference with the ASFMS Honor Society advisors to reflect before completing a well thought out, written explanation of their actions. Upon receiving a written explanation, the Faculty Council will decide if the member should be reinstated. The Council or student may also elect to schedule a hearing in which the student will explain their actions and reason for appeal before a decision is made. Each grade, discipline, and attendance is viewed as a separate appeal. Only one appeal is permitted during a student's time as a member.
Parents and guardians are not allowed to attend an appeal hearing, as outlined in the National Junior Honor Society Constitution. All appeal decisions by the Faculty Council are final.
Students may appeal all Faculty Council decisions directly to the school principal.
