PARENT INVOLVEMENT POLICY

C.O.R.E. Placer, Inc. Board Approved 10/4/2016

PARENT INVOLVEMENT POLICY

The Board recognizes that parents/guardians are their children’s first and most influential teachers and that continued parental involvement in the education of children contributes greatly to student achievement and a positive school environment.

PARENT RESPONSIBILITIES

Independent Study, non-classroom-based charter schools, by their very nature, require a high level of parent involvement. When parents enroll their children in CORE Placer, they agree to take responsibility for facilitating the education of their children, under the guidance of the credentialed teacher (PLT). The model also requires parent-PLT meetings twice every 22-28 school days, once in person. During these meetings, parents show their PLT (teacher) what their CORE Placer Charter School enrolled children have done during that learning period and discuss what additional help they might need to succeed.

OPTIONAL PARENT INVOLVEMENT

Parent and community involvement in the governance of the school is available through participation in the Board of Directors and/or Charter Advisory Council. Parents are invited to attend and provide input at these meetings, or send input by way of their PLT. Staff meetings and staff agendas are open to parent input, and the staff meeting agenda is open for the addition of items of concern to parents by request. Parents are notified of staff meeting dates, board of director’s meeting dates and Charter Advisory Council dates through the school website.

PARENT SURVEY

Parents are surveyed every spring for input on their experience with Core Placer. These survey results are shared with staff and the Board of Directors.
