Technology Education

About the Teacher: Brad Smith

Hello, my name is Brad Smith, I am a graduate of SUNY College at Oswego where I received my bachelors and masters degrees in Industrial Arts/Technology Education. I taught for two years in Watkins Glen and Spencer-Van Etten before coming to Cooperstown in the Fall of 1993. I was born in Cooperstown and have lived most of my life in nearby Richfield Springs, where I currently reside with my wife and two children. In my spare time I enjoy spending time with my family, working on our family farm, hunting, fishing, kayaking, camping, hiking and snowmobiling.

Since coming to Cooperstown Central School I have primarily taught the NY State mandated, 8th grade Introduction to Technology Education class. However, I am also responsible for the high school classes as well. Listed below you will find all of the classes that I teach on a rotational schedule. I also serve as the 8th Grade Team Leader, Outward Bound Coordinator and Tech Club Advisor. Tech Club typically meets one night per week after school and is open to students from grades 7-12. Activities in Tech Club include a variety of experiences such as woodworking, CAD, vinyl sign making, LEGO and Tetrix robotics, 3D printing, metalworking and welding. I enjoy the challenges of the ever changing technology that fills our lives. More importantly I believe it is crucial that our students be given the opportunities to experience working with current technology. I am hopeful that what I teach may shape their lives and possibly even lead to career choices for the future.
