I sometimes worry that my students are wishing their days away. I hear “I can’t wait for……” often. When I hear this I usually quote John Dewey, “Education is not preparation for life; education is life itself” in hopes that they will find the joy in the present. I want them to know that school is not a waiting room for life.

Recently, while at a NH Educators Rising Competition at Southern New Hampshire University my students found this quote on the wall. They were so excited and asked me to pose for a picture with it. It seemed to connect for them. They shared that we were living our philosophy!
