College Credit Plus
Youngstown State University visited CHS on Wednesday November 9th at 6pm in the High School Auditorium for a CCP Informational Session. At this informational session, students and families were provided with a detailed PowerPoint presentation on a general overview of the CCP Program and Requirements and were also given direction on the Application process for YSU.
If you are interested in going through the Eligibility and Application Process to participate in CCP for the 24/25 School Year, please click here to subscribe to the Remind App to get updates and communication on due dates of required documents.
If you were unable to attend our Informational Session, you may reach out to Mrs. Cleghorn to get the information. You can also review the Frequently Asked Questions below to learn about the Letter of Intent and Mature Content Permission Form, application process, textbooks, grades, and etc.
Mrs. Cleghorn welcomes all students and families to reach out to schedule a meeting to meet and discuss the CCP Program further.
What is College Credit Plus (CCP)?
You are able to earn both high school and college credit.
BUT it does not replace the requirements to graduate.
What are the requirements?
Grades 7-12
Attending a High School
ACT scores required (vary depending on college requirements)
English 18
Reading 22
Math 22
Where are they offered?
In the high school or at a college (Kent State Salem, Youngstown State University, Eastern Gateway Community College)
How do I enroll?
Where do my grades show?
On BOTH your high school and college transcripts.
Your grades will follow you forever!
How does CCP impact Athletic Eligibility?
You must be passing five (5) one credit courses or the equivalent per grading period with the HS and college courses combined.
Who pays for College Admission, Textbooks, Fees?
Students attending a PUBLIC college will not be charged for tuition, books, fees. If attending a PRIVATE college, students may be charged. If a student chooses to drop a class after the "drop date" there may be charges involved that the student is then responsible for. To see CHS CCP Book Policy and Procedures, click here!
How does my student get to classes?
Students are responsible for their own transportation to classes. Some classes are offered at CHS, others are on campus. If they are taking classes on campus, it is their responsibility to get to and from class. Students may also schedule CCP courses online.
What if I fail a class?
Students who fail a class will receive an "F" on both their high school and college transcripts and will be computed into the high school GPA.
Does the College Credit Transfer after Graduation?
Thanks to Ohio's Transfer to Degree Guarantee, many courses earned at an Ohio PUBLIC college are guaranteed to transfer to another Ohio public college.
Additional Important information to note:
Once a student is registered for classes as a CCP student, they are treated as a college student. It is their sole responsibility to succeed, ask for help and communicate with professors.
High School personnel have very limited access to the students progress.
Not all professors are made aware they have CCP students in their class. Because CCP is dual credit, they show up the same way a full time college student does on their classroom roster.
CCP Students are the very last group of students to schedule. With that being said, it needs to be understood that students will become limited to the class options they have available to them. Students may not always get the classes they want.
Maturity is a very big factor in becoming a CCP student. Yes, students may have met all academic benchmarks (according to the ACT), but it is important to remember that these students could be taking classes (in person or on-line) with a variety of students (age, race, gender, ethnicity).
Example: be aware that there may be classroom discussion with content or language used that may traditionally not be used in the High School.
Intro to CCP: Prior to March 1st, CHS will provide students and families with General Information on CCP.
Letter of Intent and Mature Content Permission Form: By April 1, you must complete a Letter of Intent and Mature Content Permission Form to participate and turn in to Mrs. Cleghorn. (PLEASE READ BELOW)
For the 24/25 School Year, Letter of Intent and Mature Content Permission Forms must be submitted to Mrs. Cleghorn by January 12th, 2024 to participate in ANY school organized CCP event with any of our Partner Schools (eligibility testing, application days, placement testing, orientations, etc.)
A Letter of Intent and Permission Form can still be submitted after the January 12th, 2024 deadline, but all CCP requirements would need to be done on Campus by the student.
You MUST go through the procedures to apply to CCP and enroll in courses. Colleges only do one round of admission for the next school year.
Once you register for classes, provide the school counselor with a copy of your individual schedule.
