Information for Applicants

Apply to attend the 2017 CUWiP at CU Boulder through the APS

Applications for the 2017 conference series open Sept. 1st and close Oct. 14th.

Applications for CUWiP 2017 are now closed

Who should apply?

The CUWiP is intended to serve undergraduates students interested in physics and supporting women in physics. The conference is targeted towards women and members of other groups that are underrepresented in physics; however, anyone interested in issues around women in physics can apply.

Only apply if you are serious about attending the conference as there are only a limited number of people that can be accepted.  Students who are accepted will also be required to complete an online registration form (see Information for Attendees for more information).

The Rocky Mountain Conference is aimed to serve the following states:

  -  New Mexico   -  Nevada

  -  Utah

  -  Oklahoma

  -  Nebraska

  -  Colorado

  -  Kansas

  -  Missouri

  -  Wyoming  (only University of Wyoming, all others to go to Montana)

  -  Northern Texas (e.g., West Texas A&M in Amarillo and Amarillo College, the rest of Texas will go to Rice)

Only students in the above states may attend the University of Colorado CUWiP.  Interested students in other states are encouraged to apply to one of the other nine CUWiPs around the country.  The other nine sites for the 2017 CUWiP are:  -  Harvard University

  -  McMaster University *

  -  Montana State University

  -  Rice University

  -  University of Wisconsin

  -  Princeton University

  -  University of California Los Angeles

  -  Virginia Tech

  -  Wayne State University

* Students in Canada should apply to the Canadian CUWiP at McMaster University, Hamilton, Ontario

What will it cost?

There is a one-time registration fee of $45, which helps offset some of the cost of the conference, including all lodging and meals. If you cannot afford the registration fee and your department/college is unable to help, you may request a fee waiver if you are accepted to attend (but before you register) by submitting a statement attesting to your financial need and verifying that department or university funds are not available. Further details will be provided when you are invited to register for the conference.  Food and Lodging expenses will be covered for all accepted applicants.  Participants are expected to seek support for travel expenses from their local department, but some travel funding is available by request for a limited number of students with significant financial need.

How to apply

We expect that a number of the conferences will be oversubscribed. Therefore, it is very important to complete all parts of the application and to write a thoughtful Applicant Statement. Priority will be given to applicants who (i) are undergraduate physics majors, (ii) have never attended an APS CUWiP, and (iii) are applying to attend the conference that is geographically closest to their expected location January 13-15, 2017.

Students selected to attend the conference based on their application will also be required to complete the online registration form.  See the Information for Attendees tab for more information.

Applications for the 2017 conference series are open through Oct. 14th.  Apply through the application link at the top of the page.
