About Us

The Visual Resources Library is focused on supporting activities related to teaching and research involving digital images in the Colgate community.

We are administered by the Department of Art & Art History with support from ITS at Colgate. We serve the Colgate community as a whole and are working with many different faculty and staff across the campus on digital imaging projects.

We house a 35mm slide collection of approximately 90,000 images which has been built over the course of several decades to facilitate the teaching of art history and studio art. We have a rapidly growing online digital image collection which has already reached 27,000 images available to the Colgate community as well as over 10,000 slides digitized from personal research collections across campus. Our digital collection is accessible to all Colgate faculty via our MDID database at
