Upcoming Events

• Welcome Mixer Event- Tuesday, February 3rd from 4-6pm in the Crow's Nest- Following signing day, all psychology majors and minors are invited to get to know others in the psychology community while enjoying refreshments and activities!

• Psi Chi Community Engagement Event- Tuesday, February 17th at 12:30pm in Forbes 2070D- In collaboration with the Center for Community Engagement, learn about the ways that you can get involved and volunteer in ways that may align with your future career goals related to psychology.

• ANXIETY Film Screen- Friday, February 20th at 5pm in the Library Theatre- Watch the new documentary that follows famous comedians and their experiences with anxiety. Following the film, there will be a Q&A featuring the director of the film and one of the comedians featured in the film!

• Induction Ceremony on Tuesday, April 21st at 8pm in Forbes 1022- Formal event officially welcome 2025-2026 inductees into Psi Chi.

• Chipotle Fundraiser- Monday, November 20 @ 5:00-9:00pm, at the Chipotle in the Patrick Henry Mall, 50% of all proceeds will go towards CNU Psi Chi

• Parade of Professors- Thursday, October 26 @ 12:30pm in Forbes 2070C, listen to the psychology department faculty and student research assistants speak about their current research topics

• Graduate School Panel- Thursday, October 19 @ 12:30pm in Forbes 2070E, come out to hear CNU psychology department faculty speak in an open panel about different types of graduate school and applying to graduate school in the field of psychology

• FallFest- Friday, September 22 @ 4:00-7:00pm, join the students of Christopher Newport University to celebrate our annual FallFest, where Psi Chi will be tabling handing out candy and the opportunity for students to make personal Rorschach Inkblots

• Fall 2017 Club Fair- Sunday, August 27 @ 3:00-5:00pm, join the clubs and organizations of Christopher Newport University to welcome the class of 2021 and learn about the Psi Chi Psychology Honor Society

• Fall 2016/Spring 2017 Inductions- Tuesday, April 11 @ 8:00pm in Forbes 1022, come out for the induction of our newest members, as well as a senior recognition for those about to graduate

• Chipotle Fundraiser- Tuesday, April 11 @ 2:00-9:00pm, at the Chipotle in the Patrick Henry Mall, 50% of all proceeds will go towards Psi Chi

• Graduate School Panel- Thursday, April 6 @ 12:30-1:30pm in Forbes 2070D, professors and alumni participate in a panel open to the CNU community to discuss applying for graduate school in the field of psychology

Annual Events

• Newport News Public School's Angel Tree- Psi Chi teams up with the Psychology Department and the Dean's Office to present the Newport News Public School's Angel Tree, which helps to provide gifts for local children who might not otherwise get a Christmas present.  Students look at the paper ornaments on the tree in the Forbes lobby. They choose one to take that has a gift idea on it for a little girl or boy. Usually, the gift is clothes or perhaps a book. Students pick up that gift and drop it back off, with the ornament attached, to the Psychology Office.  

• Inductions- Every year students who have applied for Psi Chi and meet the criteria for membership are invited to an inductions ceremony. Attendees include the Psi Chi officers, the Psi Chi faculty advisor (Dr. Niehaus), CNU Psychology Department faculty, a keynote speaker, and current Psi Chi members.  New inductees are given their membership certificate and a membership pin, and are honored by the CNU Psychology community.  To make this ceremony more special, only one is held per year (in the Spring semester) to honor both Fall and Spring inductees.  Followed by a small reception.
