Course Syllabus (2023-2024)

Course Objectives:
· The goal of this class is to enable students to improve their proficiency across the three modes of communication (interpretive, interpersonal, and presentational). These will further develop and strengthened student’s listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills in the target language.
Notation
· Spanish 3 students are expected to have learned and/or mastered Spanish 2 Material. [C or Better]
· Transferred students are subject to the aforementioned expectations as well.
Course Expectations, Policies and Rules
· Students are expected to behave responsibly, respectfully, trustworthy and show good citizenship.
· Students must come to Class prepared with the following: Spiral, English/Spanish dictionary (Strongly Suggested), pen/pencil and desire to learn.
· Classes will be conducted in Spanish, except for clarification purposes. You are expected to communicate in Spanish. Thus, Effort will be essential to your success in the course and help your Class Participation Points. (teacher’s discretion)
· Cellphones must be kept out of reach and/or stay inside your backpack/purse, and on silent mode at all times during Class. These may be used only when teacher allows for you to do so. Loss of significant Class Participation Points, along with other Disciplinary action will result from defiance of this Classroom Rule.
Conduct and Disciplinary Action
Students are subject to disciplinary action for the following:
· Defiance of Classroom Rules and Course Expectations [Teacher’s Discretion]
· Causing and/or being disruptive in Class [e.g., excessive use of English, socializing, being disrespectful, etc.] [Teacher’s Discretion]
· Leaving Class before Teacher dismisses you.
Notation: In addition to Disciplinary Actions, students will lose significant Class Participation Points. These will Not be reinstated. Students are expected to come to Class to learn Spanish.

· Homework, Classwork and Class Participation
· Work Ethic:
· Homework is essential in succeeding and meeting Spanish 3 Learning Objectives.
· Homework will be given on a regular basis. It will be checked on Google-Classroom and/or accordingly.
· All Classwork (e.g. notes, handouts, bookwork, etc.) will be accounted for. Assignments need to be turned in via Google-Classroom and/or accordingly. [Teacher will advise]
· Make-up work is the responsibility of the student. (please see Student Handbook Homework policy). Arrangements will be made accordingly.
· Class Participation: Points will be given every 2 weeks for Class Participation. These will be given for the following: Being on Time, Staying on Task, following instructions, Participating from Class discussions*, Completing Classwork and Homework on Time.
Students can find out about Missing Assignments by:
· Visiting Google-Classroom, as needed.
· Check Student Connect, as needed.
· Schedule a meeting and/or visit me during my Office-Hours, as needed.
· Late work will Not be accepted.
Gradebook Discrepancies
· Students will have up to 10 school days* from the day the Assignment and/or quiz was given/assigned to:
· Discuss missing assignments.
· Discuss Graded or Not Assignments and/or Scores on the Gradebook, as well as, other related course matters (e.g., Test, Quizzes and/or Class Assignments*).
· Request Makeups.
· Once grace period is over, all Missing Scores will get a “0”.
· Thus, keeping up with the Gradebook (Student-Connect) and Due Dates are essential to avoid falling behind in Spanish 3.
· All students are equally subject to the above-mentioned policies. (special circumstances will have to be resolved with World Languages Department L.D.).

Notation:
· Course Matters will Not be Resolved via Email. These must be taken care of in Person during my Office Hours.
Excused Absences
· Students have one class-day for every excused absence to make-up for the missed assignments in order to receive full Credit.
Periodic Assessments*** (announced or not)
· These may be given on any day you come to Class.
· These will cover material learned and/or practiced previously (e.g., grammar, vocabulary, etc.) as well as, Authentic Reading Material (Authentic, meaning, you have not seen the reading before).
· Thus, it is highly recommended for students to stay updated with Class Notes and Homework Assignments. (Google-Classroom and/or Class Notes).
Projects/Presentations: All students are expected to Present their Projects in front of the Class. Specific instructions on how to complete projects will be given accordingly. Not presenting in front of the Class will have an effect on your Project’s Scores.
Grading Criteria:
o Attendance + Class Participation: 15%
o Writing/Reading Assessments: 25%
o Periodic Assessments, announced or not (e.g., Grammar, Vocabulary, Oral, etc.): 25%
o Projects: 25%
o Homework/Classwork: 10%
Notation on Extra Credit (if given):
• It cannot exceed 2% of the Course Grade.
Recommended materials:
· 1 composition notebook (Spanish only)
· 2 subject college ruled 8 ½” x 11”, 200 pages spiral notebook (Spanish Only)
· 3 ring binder for Spanish handouts
· Spanish/English dictionary (Highly Recommended***)
