Lemuel H Froneberger--for graduating senior, young man of color--African American or Hispanic descent.  Applicant must demonstrate positive impact involvement, evidenced by significant success in academics, extracurricular activities, and community involvement.  Application is attached and is available in the guidance office. Larry Mack Award--for Crest High senior football and softball players only.  Applicant will need to submit a 1 page essay about the importance of giving back to the community and school.   Essay is  due to Mrs. Francis April 26.

 

Jeffrey Cooper Memorial--Scholarship available to Crest senior planning to attend college in the fall.  Applicant should have a well-rounded academic/extra-curricular background.  Study of foreign language (particularly French) is considered favorable but is not required.   Application is attached and is available in the guidance office.  Completed application is due to Mrs. Francis April 26.

Boyd Cabaniss Memorial--$500 scholarship for Crest student planning to study agriculture or related field.  Application is attached and is available in the guidance office (General Application)  Completed application is due to guidance April 26.

 

Brooks & Vernie Piercy--$500 scholarship for Crest student planning to attend a four year college or university to study agriculture.  Based on character, academic performance, and leadership.  Application is attached and is available in the guidance office (General Application). Carl DeBrew--$300 scholarship for Crest student planning to attend a 2 or 4 year college with a career tech major (agriculture preferred).  Based on character, scholarship, and leadership.  Application is attached or is available in the guidance office (General Application).  Completed application is due to guidance April 26.

 

Michael Wilson Memorial--$500 scholarship for Crest student planning to attend a 2 or 4 year college in the fall.  Applicant should exhibit character, scholarship, leadership, affiliation with the Rodeo and/or active involvement in the FFA program.  Application is attached or is available in the guidance office (General Application). Completed application is due to guidance April 26. 

 

Friendship Masonic Lodge--Scholarship available to student who has been accepted to college.  GPA, leadership, and community involvement are considered.  Application is attached and is available in the guidance office (General Application). Completed application is due to guidance April 26.

 

Elizabeth Drum Scholarship-- for senior planning to attend Cleveland Community College in the fall. Walter Norville Memorial--Scholarship available to CHS senior planning to attend college in the fall (community college is preferable).  Application is attached to this email and is available in the guidance office (General Application). Completed application is due to Mrs. Francis April 26. 

Bridges/Beck Scholarship--scholarship to Crest High senior who plans to attend a four year college/university in the fall.  Applicant should have a love for science.  Application is attached to this email and is available in the guidance office (General Application). Holly Styers Memorial--scholarship to Crest High senior who plans to pursue a career in cosmetology.  Application is attached to this email and is available in the guidance office (General Application). Completed application is due to Mrs. Francis April 26.

Chip Haskin Memorial--for Crest High senior planning to pursue a degree at a two or four year college.  Applicant must have participated in the Varsity baseball team as a player, manager, scorekeeper, etc. for two seasons.  Application is attached and is available in the guidance office.  Completed applications are due to guidance May 1.

 

Entrepreneur Scholarship--The Cleveland County Chamber is providing a $1000 scholarship for 1 graduating senior from each of the 5 Cleveland County high schools.  The scholarship is to be used to help seniors launch an entrepreneur idea or support a new business.  The top 3 candidates from each school will be invited to participate in a Business Pitch Presentation to a group of "investors".  For more information visit https://clevelandchamber.org/entrepreneur-scholarship-pitch-contest/. Cleveland Community College--offers both merit and need-based scholarships to attend CCC.  Application is attached to this email.  Completed application should be submitted to financialaid@clevelandcc.edu.   CCC will begin looking at applications when they are submitted, so the earlier you submit it the better! 

 

Mike Beard Memorial Scholarship-$10,000 for NC athletes planning to play their sport in college.  Applicant must have a minimum 4.2 weighted GPA, have signed a National Letter of Intent to play college sports, must show financial need, and have participated in community or school service activities.  Application is available at https://www.athleteslab.org/mikebeard.html

NC Farm Bureau R. Flake Shaw--Scholarships available for seniors planning to attend a four year college/university or a community college.  Applicants should have the intention to pursue a career in agriculture or in an agriculturally-related field.  Award for four year college/university applicant is $5000 per year.  Award for community college applicant is $1000 per year.  Applications are available at https://www.ncfb.org/r-flake-shaw-scholarship/ Student should mail or email completed application before March 4.

Faith C Webber Scholarship--for graduating seniors planning to attend a four year college/university in the fall.  Applicant should have a minimum unweighted GPA of 3.0 and have participated in extracurricular activities for at least 2 years. Golden Leaf--Scholarship ($3500 per year) for NC seniors planning to enroll in a NC college or community college in the fall.  Applicant should have a 2.5 GPA, have financial need as determined by the FAFSA, and plan to return to a rural NC county after college graduation.  Application is available at https://www.cfnc.org/pay-for-college/apply-for-financial-aid/golden-leaf-colleges-and-universities-scholarship/ Deadline to apply is March 1.

Workforce Development Scholarship--$1000 for community college or technical school students who are seeking a career in a skilled trade directly related to residential construction (carpentry, welding, plumbing, electrical, masonry, etc).   Application is attached.  See Mrs. Hamilton for more information.  Completed application should be mailed or emailed by the student to be received by April 30.


The Eunice Riggins Memorial Scholarship -open to any young woman who is currently graduating from an accredited public high school in North Carolina and who expects to enroll in a four-year college or university in North Carolina next fall. Specific eligibility requirements are: Academic rank in top 10% of class, Minimum SAT score of 1220 or ACT composite score of 25, good character and participation in extra-curricular activities (school and community). The Mary Rose Mills-Linda Rankin Memorial Scholarship -open to any student who is currently graduating from an accredited public high school in North Carolina and who expects to enroll in a four-year college or university next fall. Specific eligibility requirements are: Academic rank in top 10% of class, Minimum SAT score of 1290 or ACT composite score of 27, good character and participation in extra-curricular activities (school and community). The Clare Johnson Marley-Mary Earle Berger Fine Arts Scholarship -open to any student who is currently graduating from an accredited public high school in North Carolina and who expects to enroll in a four-year college or university next fall, and who is declaring as his/her major in an area of the fine arts. Specific eligibility requirements are: Academic rank in top 20% of class, Minimum SAT score of 1220 or ACT composite score of 25, good character and participation in extra-curricular activities (school and community). Financial need is not the primary consideration. (Samples of talent are required to be submitted with the application.)

North Carolina Alpha Delta Kappa Student Achievement Scholarship-- $2000 and is open to a male or female, on track to graduate and planning to attend a 2-year or 4-year college or university.  Specific eligibility requirements are:  SAT score of 990 to 1130 or ACT composite score of 20 to 24; unweighted GPA of 2.5 to 3.5; good character, integrity, leadership potential and service to school, community and church.  Students should apply for this scholarship through the North Carolina Community Foundation at www.nccommunityfoundation.org  Deadline to apply is March 15. 


Number 3 Ruritan--Scholarship for seniors who live in the Number 3 Area who plan to attend college in the fall.  Application is attached and is also available in the guidance office.  Completed applications are due to Mrs. Francis February 9.


Alpha Delta Kappa--$1000 for senior planning to become a teacher. Applicant must be ranked in the top 10% of their class, have a minimum SAT score of 1220 or ACT composite of 25, and be planning to attend a NC college/university in the fall.  Application is attached and is also available in the guidance office.  Completed applications should be mailed by the student to be received by March 1

NCECA Scholarship--$800 for senior planning to attend college. Applicant can be planning to pursue any major but consideration is given to Family and Consumer Sciences majors.  Connection and involvement with the Cooperative Extension Service is part of the application.  Application is available at  https://fcs.ces.ncsu.edu/wp-content/uploads/2020/01/2020-Appendix-G.pdf?fwd=no

Head Start Scholarship--for seniors who participated in and graduated from Cleveland County Head Start.  Application is attached.  Completed applications are due to Mrs. Francis February 15. 


Master Gardener Association--$1000 for high school senior in Cleveland County.  Applicant must have a minimum 2.5 GPA, be accepted into an accredited 2 or 4 year college/university for the fall, and be planning to major in horticulture, agriculture, plant science, botany, forestry, landscape architecture/design, or another gardening-related field.  Application is attached.  Student should mail completed application by March 1. 


Abbott and Fenner Scholarship--$1000 scholarship.  Application and details are available at  https://abbottandfenner.com/scholarships.php.     Deadline to apply is June 10.

State Employees Credit Union "People Helping People"--$10,000 (payable $1,250 per semester) for seniors planning to attend one of the 16 constituent campuses of the UNC System.  This scholarship is only available to seniors who are either members of SECU or the child of a parent/guardian who is a member of SECU.  Applicants must be a US Citizen and a resident of NC.  They must have a minimum 2.5 unweighted GPA and have demonstrated leadership, excellence of character, integrity, and community involvement.  

To apply, click on the first attachment below and read the directions to apply electronically.  You will first have to verify your membership to SECU.  This process can take a couple of days so don't wait until the last minute!     

CHS can nominate three students to compete for this scholarship.  The three nominees will be interviewed at the count office to determine the recipient.

Hispanic Scholarship Fund--For seniors of Hispanic heritage.  Must be US Citizen, permanent legal resident, or DACA.  Minimum GPA of 3.0 and must be planning to enroll in a 4 year public university in the fall.  Application is available at https://www.hsf.net/scholarship  Deadline to apply is February 15. 


 Cecilia Music Club--For seniors in Cleveland County.  Scholarship is to be used for private music lessons while in college.  Students do not have to major in music.  Audition is required.  Application is attached.  Completed applications should be mailed by the student to be received by March 6. 

 

Sylvia Holmes--$500 scholarship available to high school senior females.  Applicants that have been or are participants in Girl Scouts will be looked on with favor.  Applications are available at https://cfgaston.org/scholarships/the-sylvia-l-holmes-scholarship. Deadline to apply is March 1. 

 

Max J. Fowler--$500 renewable scholarship for student planning to attend NC State University in the College of Physical and Mathematical Sciences or College of Engineering.  Applications are available at https://cfgaston.org/scholarships/max-j-fowler-scholarship  Deadline to apply is March 7.

 

Jarman Family--$5000 scholarship available to high school seniors whose parent(s) are full-time religious ministers in North and South Carolina.  Applicant should be planning to attend an accredited college or university.  Award is based on character, academic achievement, and need.  Applications are available at https://cfgaston.org/scholarships/jarman-family-scholarship Deadline to apply is March 7.

Dover Scholarship--scholarship available to seniors who attend traditional high school in Cleveland County.  This is a competitive, merit-based scholarship that is awarded based on class rank, academic achievements, leadership, and activities.   There will be 12 scholarships given.  The scholarships will be allocated as follows: two ($20,000), five ($15,000), and five ($10,000).  Of the 12 recipients, four will attend Gardner-Webb University and eight will attend any other accredited college or university. College you plan to attend must be indicated on the scholarship application.   

 

Application is attached.  Please be sure to type your application. You will need to download the application to be able to type on it.  All responses MUST be on the application (no separate activities resume) The application requires an essay that can be typed on a separate page and attached to the application.  Application, essay, and 2 letters of recommendation (1 must be from school personnel and 1 must be from community contact) are due to Mrs. Francis February 23. 


Harry W Clarke--One $2000 scholarship, renewable for three additional years, will be awarded to a graduating senior from a public high school in the 29 county Western NC region.  Crest may nominate one application to submit for consideration.  Student must attend a NC four-year college or university. Scholarship considers financial need, academic ability, good moral character, and community involvement. William A. Spectrum News High School Scholar--$1000 scholarship for seniors in public and private high schools in NC.  Applicant must be involved in varsity athletics  or have an excellent academic record, and be involved in extra-curricular activities, such as band, newspaper, or yearbook, and be active in their local community, either through their school or volunteering on their own time.  Students may be nominated by a coach, teacher, administrator, or school counselor by December 31. Tucker Scholars--from GWU.  One full tuition/room & board scholarship for an incoming freshmen to GWU who best exemplifies the principles and values of Christian service in heart, mind, soul, and strength. Wilburn Clary Medal Award--$3000 awarded to one male and one female graduating senior student-athlete participating on a sanctioned varsity sport team during his/her senior year at a NCHSAA member school.  Athlete must have participated in at least two sanctioned varsity sports during his/her high school career. Jackie Robinson Scholarship--for minority high school senior planning to attend an accredited 4 year college/university.  Applicant should have an excellent academic record, demonstrate leadership potential and dedication to community service, and show evidence of financial need.  Applicant must not have accrued more than 25% of credits needed to graduate from college. NC Teaching Fellows--a competitive, merit-based forgivable loans for service program that provides up to $8,250 a year for up to four years to highly-qualified students committed to teaching special education or a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics field) in a NC public, traditional, or charter school. Applicant must be accepted to an approved educator preparation program at one of the Teaching Fellows partner institutions (Chapel Hill, Elon, Fayetteville State, Meredith, NC A&T, NC State, UNC Charlotte, or UNC Pembroke), have a minimum unweighted GPA of 3.0 and are encouraged to submit SAT/ACT scores.  Application is available at https://myapps.northcarolina.edu/ncteachingfellows/ and will open on September 4th.  ​Applicants are strongly encouraged to read all the information and loan requirements before applying.  Deadline to apply is January ​9​.


Wofford Scholars--the largest merit-based scholarship program at Wofford College.  Nominees should rank in the top 10% of their class, score at least 1300 on the SAT/PSAT or 28 on the ACT/PLAN, and be active in leadership and service roles in their school and/or community.  If you would like to be considered for a nomination, let Mrs. Francis know by September 13. 


Jack Kent Cooke Foundation--nationwide scholarship. Applicants must enroll in an accredited four-year college in fall 2024; have a cumulative unweighted GPA of 3.5 or above; demonstrate unmet financial need--applicants with family income up to $95,000 will be considered but it is anticipated that a majority of scholarship recipients will be eligible to receive a Pell grant.  Applications are available at https://www.jkcf.org/our-scholarships/college-scholarship-program/how-to-apply/   Deadline to apply is November 16


John M. Belk Scholarship--Davidson College offers this four-year scholarship covering tuition, room and board.  Nominees should demonstrate powerful academic achievement and engagement in the classroom.  They should also exhibit deep intellectual curiosity and a commitment to impact both their local and global communities.  Crest High can nominate 2 students.  If you would like to be considered for a nomination, please submit an activity sheet and letter of interest (stating why you would like to be considered for the Belk Scholarship) to Mrs. Francis by ​October 27.


The Thomas Wolfe Scholarship--UNC Chapel Hill offers the Thomas Wolfe Scholarship which offers full undergraduate support for student writers.  Applicants should apply to UNC Chapel Hill by October 15.  Scholarship information is available online at https://englishcomplit.unc.edu/creative-writing/scholarships-and-awards/the-thomas-wolfe-scholarship/   Deadline to apply is November 15.

Robertson Scholarship--one of the most highly sought-after merit scholarships in the United States and is for students applying to Duke and/or UNC Chapel Hill.  Applicants should be seniors who have demonstrated outstanding potential to become great leaders in college and beyond. Robertson Scholars will play significant and impactful roles in their communities and society, today and in the future. Information and application is available at robertsonscholars.org

Goodnight Scholars--From NC State University for $2​3,000 per year.  For  NC students of middle-income families who intend to major in a STEM (science, technology, engineering, & math) discipline.  To be considered for this program, students must submit their general NC State application by November 1.  NC State will issue invitations to 900 students who apply by November 1.  If you do not receive an invitation, you can self-nominate by December 1st.   More details about the program and selection process can be found at https://goodnight.ncsu.edu/first-year/

Park Scholarship--NC State University offers the Park Scholarship.  This is a four-year scholarship valued at $120,000 and includes tuition, room and board, books, travel, personal expenses, and more.    To be eligible for the program: applicants must have a minimum unweighted GPA of 3.5 and/or a minimum weighted 4.0 GPA and be applying for fall, first-year admissions.    Apply to NC State and the Park Scholarship applications by November 1.  For more information about the process go to https://park.ncsu.edu/


Levine Scholars--UNC Charlotte offers a merit based scholarship for full tuition, room, board, and fees.  Applicants should have outstanding academic records, demonstrate a commitment to community service, and possess a capacity for ethical leadership.  Applicants can self-nominate or be nominated by their high school by October 15.  If you would like to be considered for a school nomination, let Mrs. Francis know by October 1.  Interested students are encouraged to read about this scholarship process at  https://levinescholars.charlotte.edu/  Applicants must apply to UNC Charlotte by November 1 and complete the supplemental Levine application by November 15. 


Gates Scholarship--highly selective scholarship for outstanding, minority, high school seniors from low-income households.  Weighted GPA must be a minimum of 3.3 but most candidates will be in the top 10% of his/her class.  Application is available at https://www.thegatesscholarship.org/scholarship.  Deadline to apply is September 15

  

Wendy's High School Heisman--recognizes outstanding athletes. Scholarship money and recognition are awarded to state and national winners.  Applicants must have at a "B" (3.0) grade average and participate in at least one of the 47 school sponsored sports listed in the Heisman application.  Application is available online at https://heismanscholarship.com/ Deadline to apply is October 17

Elks Foundation Most Valuable Student--Scholarship available to seniors planning to attend a four year college or university.  Academics, leadership, and need will be considered.  Applications are available online at https://www.elks.org/scholars/scholarships/mvs.cfm

Morehead-Cain--UNC Chapel Hill offers the Morehead-Cain Foundation Scholarship.  This is a highly competitive merit scholarship that offers four years of undergraduate work at UNC Chapel Hill.  Nominees must demonstrate scholarship, leadership, moral force of character, and physical vigor.  A Morehead-Cain Scholar is also bright, collaborative, self-aware, brave, purposeful, empathetic, optimistic, and original.   Crest High can nominate 3 seniors.  Students can also self- nominate through the direct application.  You can read about the process at https://www.moreheadcain.org/apply/  If you would like to be considered for a school nomination please complete the attached preliminary application.   The preliminary application will be due to guidance August 24.
