Congratulations to ALL of the History Bee/Bowl students. They all advanced to the Regional Finals on March 31st in Omaha (4:30-8:00 PM). They will be bringing home a letter today with details. Over the next two weeks please decide whether you will be escorting your child to the competition. With this many students qualifying, it would be great to have you there to support them. They are separated into a variety of rooms for the first rounds of competition and it always helps to have support in the room. I will also need to have a final count for transportation as we would need two vans to transport the students. I'm excited for this next level of competition!
Secondly, the Pizza Hut night is in the process of being changed to a later date. Julia is trying to arrange the 10th if possible. She will let me know as soon as she confirms with the manager.
Lastly, as of right now, we will not participate in the February 27th Waukee competition. This is an upper level HS competition, and we can't qualify through this process for the bowl team. This is a change this year. We are looking at having a competition here, either an official one or a practice one. As of this time the National Office hasn't given me a definitive answer on MS qualification pertaining to the Bowl competition. Last year if we had one person in the top ten of Regionals and/or had two from our MS team qualify for Nationals, we qualified a team.
Please let me know if you have further questions.

Greetings to all on this blustery day:
1st - If you see someone's email that is not listed please let me know and/or forward to them. Please keep us updated as you will start to get more emails. For those of you that are new. These emails try to be just the facts; not letter-like, so please read through all of them.
Thank you to all who have helped with concessions. We have done great so far and we have had a lot of help and donations. If you haven't helped, there are still quite a few dates left. Thanks to the Harris's for keeping things going while I'm laid up.
Hat Day was ok, but we think a few forgot. The teachers are in favor of doing it again in the spring. I have a few options for selling some neon hats as well for those that don't have a hat (cost about a dollar, we would sell them for $2).
A "Go Fund Me" site has been set up for the History Teams (MS & HS HB/B and NHD) You may log in and share with your Facebook to get the word out. We can go public, but I want everyone's permission before I do so. Secondly, I will be sending home a "publicity" photo release should we use our team photos for our funding sources. Right now I just have a basic photo on the page, but would like to get "action pictures" displayed. Here is the link: gofundme.com/vfk3hmtr Sorry for the BIG SPACE (copy and paste issues).
We are going to do a Butter Braid Fundraiser: I will hand out solicitation forms on 2/11 or 12. The forms will be due back to me by 2/26. I have to email the orders to them by no later than noon on 2/29. Butter Braids will be delivered on 3/7 at 4:00. We will need a few parents to help them sort-it doesn't take that long 5-10 minutes at most. Orders will be ready to pick up as soon as they are sorted. All should be picked up by 4:30 otherwise they do a little thawing. I have had many people ask when we are going to do this again, so you should get some good orders. Our goal is 10 per student minimum--feel free to do more. We get 5.00 profit if we sell up to 150, 6:00 if we sell more than 150.
Valentine's day tattoos will be sold by the students before school (7:30 AM) on February 11th and 12th for a dollar each.
Julia and other parents will be contacting you about a Valentine's day dance, perhaps on the 12th. It went very well year before last. We would sell concessions, pop and snacks if we do the dance. The last time we did this we asked each family to donate 2-12 packs of pop (we will use what we have left for concessions as well) and whatever snack is decided. I know we did cookies as well.
St. Patrick's day tattoos will be sold on March 16th and 17th by the students before school (7:30 AM).
We should know by next week who has made the 6-state regional cut. We would like to have a parent meeting as soon as we find out as we have some options to go with this. I have contacted a good educational charter company for Nationals in Chicago. Hopefully, all will make it through to the next round, just want you to remember that even if they don't make it as an individual, they will still be part of a team.
As of last Thursday, they haven't set up MS Bowl Competitions. I explained that we really need to know. If they don't have anything set by Monday, we will register for the Waukee competition on February 27th. I know there are a few that can't make it that day, but teams don't have to be the same for State and Nationals. That means if a team makes it, you can rotate people around to fit the need.
I know this is a lot of information and there will be more to come. We are still looking at a Pizza Hut night, and a Casey Pizza Discount Card Fundraiser.
Thanks, and as always, feel free to contact me if you have questions.
