Concert Choir is the core ensemble of the Fox Chapel Area High School Choral Department and includes students in grades 9–12. The choir performs regularly throughout the year and serves as the foundation of the choral program. Students will build strong ensemble and individual vocal technique while engaging with high-quality, diverse choral literature. In alignment with the mission of the Fox Chapel Choral Department, Concert Choir emphasizes intentional connection to music, thoughtful interpretation of text, and the development of musicianship and music literacy. Through rehearsal and performance, students explore a wide range of musical styles and historical contexts, fostering both artistic growth and a sense of community. Attendance at all rehearsals and concerts is mandatory.

Madrigal Singers is the advanced chamber ensemble of the Choral Department. This highly selective, auditioned group offers students the opportunity to perform challenging and meaningful repertoire in a small ensemble setting. Music performed spans a variety of styles, including early Renaissance secular and sacred works, classical chamber music, contemporary compositions, and jazz.As the flagship vocal ensemble of the program, Madrigal Singers reflects the mission of the Fox Chapel choral community—emphasizing intentional musical interpretation, strong connection to text and meaning, and a high level of music literacy. Students are expected to demonstrate artistic integrity, collaborative spirit, and a commitment to musical growth. Madrigal Singers also plays an important role in community outreach, regularly performing at school functions, community events, and throughout the region as ambassadors of the choral program. Participation is for the full school year, and students must be enrolled in Concert Choir, Symphonic Band, or Orchestra for the full year to be eligible. Attendance at all rehearsals and performances is mandatory.

Vulpes Cantantes (Latin for “Singing Foxes”) is a select treble ensemble composed of sopranos and altos in grades 9–12. This auditioned group represents one of the most advanced performance opportunities within the Choral Department. Known for its musical excellence, Vulpes Cantantes has been honored with invitations to perform at state and regional music conferences, showcasing the artistry and dedication of its members. As an extension of the curricular choral program, the ensemble performs a diverse range of repertoire—from Renaissance and classical works to contemporary and jazz styles—while promoting the choral department’s mission of intentional interpretation, strong connection to text, and high-level music literacy. Membership in Vulpes Cantantes comes with high expectations. Students are expected to uphold the ensemble’s standard of excellence through dedicated preparation, consistent attendance, and personal accountability. Rehearsals are held on Monday evenings from 7:00 PM to 8:30 PM, and students must adhere to the attendance guidelines outlined in the signed ensemble contract. Enrollment in Concert Choir, Symphonic Band, or Orchestra is required for participation.
Tenor/Bass Ensemble is a fun, high-energy vocal group open to all tenor and bass singers in grades 9–12. Designed to build camaraderie, confidence, and vocal skills in a relaxed and supportive setting, this ensemble gives singers the opportunity to explore a wide range of music—everything from classical to barbershop, pop, folk, and beyond. Whether you're an experienced or brand new to singing, Tenor/Bass Ensemble offers a place to grow musically and connect with others through shared performance. The group performs at concerts and school events throughout the year and brings a unique energy and personality to the choral program. Rehearsals take place on Friday mornings before school, making it easy to participate without conflicting with other activities. Laughter, teamwork, and strong musical moments are all part of the experience. Students must be enrolled in Concert Choir, Symphonic Band, or Orchestra to participate.
Whether you are new to singing, or a seasoned veteran, there is an ensemble that is right for you! Every Fox Chapel Area High School student has the opportunity to experience great choral music in an enjoyable, artistic, and positive atmosphere.
