The AP Drawing Portfolio
The information below is from the AP Board regarding the AP Drawing Portfolio requirements. The following work is completed over the course of the junior and senior years, and submitted at the beginning of May in the senior year. There are both image and written requirements. Also, while called the Drawing Portfolio, painting, mixed media, and printmaking may be included. Only 2D work is allowed.
The portfolio consists of two sections:
I. Selected Works (40% of score)
- 5 digital images of works that demonstrate drawing (or painting) skills, and a synthesis of materials, processes, and ideas
-these pieces must be two-dimensional, and are not to exceed 18"x 24" (TBD if scale requirements still apply)
-these works may also be submitted in the Sustained Investigation but don't have to be
II. Sustained Investigation (60% of score)
-15 digital images of works of art and process documentation that demonstrate sustained investigation through practice, experimentation, and revision
-"Process documentation images included in the portfolio should show evidence of practice, experimentation, and revision using materials, processes, and ideas and/or skillful synthesis of materials, processes, and ideas, providing insight on students' inquiry, thinking, and making."

Written Requirements
Selected Works
*For each work (5), students must state the following in writing:
-idea(s) visually evident (100 characters max, including spaces)
-materials used (100 characters max, including spaces)
-processes used (100 characters max, including spaces)
*Regarding the short statement for each work:
"Responses are evaluated along with the images the students submit. The most successful responses in terms of assessment are those that are clearly related to the images submitted, that directly and completely address the prompts , and that provide further evidence of skillful synthesis of materials, processes, and ideas shown in the work."
Sustained Investigation/Concentration Statement
"Describe how your sustained investigation shows evidence of practice, experimentation, and revision guided by your questions." (1200 characters max., including spaces)
*For each image, include:
-materials used (100 characters max, including spaces)
-processes used (100 characters max, including spaces)
-size (height x depth, in inches). For images that show process, students should enter N/A.
