Mythology (6th grade)
In this class, you will learn about Greco-Roman Mythology: gods, heroes, monsters! We will follow the footsteps of the ancient Greeks and Romans to learn about how their geography, history, and culture play important roles in the tales that they have passed down to us. As we progress in our studies, we will connect the ancient world with the modern by learning how the Greek and Roman civilizations continue to influence our own culture today (Harry Potter, anyone? Star Trek? Star Wars? Percy Jackson?).
Exploratory Latin (6th grade)
Step into the sandalia of the Romans to learn about their customs, culture, history, and religion! In this class, we will learn to speak, read, and write basic Latin. As we progress in our Latin studies, we will connect the ancient world with the modern by learning how the Greek and Roman civilizations continue to influence our own culture today.
Latin I (7th grade)
Would you wear a toga if you lived in ancient Rome? Where would you live? What would you eat? What would you do for a living? Take Latin I and you will discover the answers to these questions and many others! You will learn how this ancient language and culture continues to affect our own world. Your English will improve, too! In addition to learning basic Latin grammar and vocabulary, you will increase your English vocabulary through the plethora of connections between English and Latin. Carpe diem!
Latin II (8th grade)
What can we learn about our own political heritage from Rome’s history? Myth and history will merge to provide us with a glimpse of ancient Roman customs and beliefs. We will continue to develop reading skills as we review, then meet new grammar and vocabulary. We can gain a better understanding of the ancient Romans, and of our own culture and language, through the words they used, the structure of their language, and the connections with our own culture.
