Orchestras
East Chapel Hill High School has two orchestras that meet during the school day:
String Orchestra and Chamber Strings
The East Chapel Hill High School String Orchestra features students from grades 9 though 12. This ensemble performs four concerts per year and plays grade IV, V and VI literature.Students who are part of these ensemble are also members of the North Carolina State Honors Orchestra, Duke University String Ensemble, North Carolina Governor's School, and small chamber ensembles. Past performances of the East Chapel Hill High School Orchestra have included the works of Copland, Warlock, Holst, Bach, Beethoven, Handel and Dvorak.
The East Chapel Hill Chamber Strings features students from grades 10-12 and entry to this class is by audition only. This ensemble performs Grade V and VI literature and selected members have performed with the North Carolina Symphony as part of their pre-concert performance "Overture Series".
The Chamber Strings course combines with the top wind players from the band program to perform in a full orchestra setting. This ensemble enjoyed the honor of performing at the North Carolina Music Educator's Convention in November of 2004, 2007, 2010, 2017 and was selected to be the first high school to perform with the UNCG Orchestras in concert on April 24th, 2012.
