Classes/Homework
Homework will be assigned throughout the year. All students are expected to complete and return all assignments. If your child chooses not to complete and/or return a given assignment, he or she will be expected to make up the missing assignment during our read aloud time. Your child should record all assignments in his or her assignment book. I will ask that a parent or guardian check and initial the assignment book every night. This is to ensure that the homework is being completed and to keep you up to date on what we are working on in class. I may also include notes on your child’s progress in his or her assignment book. This is another reason it is important that you check the assignment book on a nightly basis.

My Math
Science and Social Studies
The second grade teaches from the ARC series. We will have a new unit each quarter. The first quarter is a core unit. Second quarter covers information writing about bugs. Third quarter is fiction writing and fairytales. Last, we end with opinion writings using community jobs.
I will send home a leveled reader each week. The student will be expected to read 15 minutes each night; one night they can choose the leveled reader as their 15 minutes of reading.
This year you will see math papers from the My Math series. Each day will learn a new objective with our lesson. The objective can be found on first paper on a blue arrow. We will do a 'See and Show' page together, the students will do an 'On My Own' page on their own, and finish with a story problem page. Throughout the lessons are problem solving lessons, 'Check My Progress' quizzes, and a 'Reflect and Review' lesson to help get ready for the test. Lessons will go home nightly and an extra Mighty Math paper will go home on Fridays.
Science and social studies will done in class. A couple projects will go home to be returned (recycling project, inventions, etc.) Tests dates will be given in our weekly newsletter.
