About the Teacher

I'm Mrs. Tucci. I'm not a native of Canastota but do live here now and have become quite fond of this small town. I grew up and attended high school in in St. Lawrence County, 2 hours north of Syracuse on the St. Lawrence River. My high school was a little bit bigger than Canastota- I graduated in a class of 160 students. I, like many students in Canastota, grew up in the country. My Dad, now retired, owned and operated a dairy farm.

I first attended Nazareth College in 1993, and then finished college at SUNY Potsdam in1997. I majored in Biology and minored in Chemistry. I remained at SUNY Potsdam and earned a Masters of Science in Teaching degree in 1998.

So, how does someone from the true "north country" end up in Canastota? Well, I chose a student teaching assignment in New Hartford in spring of 1998, then taught summer school at VVS. That fall, Canastota needed a part time chemistry teacher and I got the job. The following school year my position was made full time and I've been here since.

I benefited from several wonderful mentor teachers here at Canastota, especially Art Broga and Doug Wilbur. I currently teach Regents Chemistry and SUPA Biology and I really enjoy the variety of teaching these two different classes; it gives me the opportunity to sometimes have students for more than one year. I find it's nice to be able to show them how chemistry and biology are interconnected.

At CHS, I am co-advisor of the National Honor Society, Honors Program, and Science Club. In my spare time I enjoy spending time with my family, scrapbooking, and participating in community organizations such as AYSO and Greater Lenox Ambulance Service.
