- All actors are to respect the needs of their scene partners and are not to deviate from what is rehearsed in a way that is disrespectful or harmful to the partner.
- Actors are expected to come into production or class rehearsals having researched their roles and invested time in the basics: Who am I? Where did I come from? What do I want?
- It is your responsibility to come to rehearsal prepared to engage in the work in a rigorous and informed way. This may require you to conduct research in the library and online.
- As you are developing your process to engage in the work, it is highly recommended that you begin every rehearsal with several warm-up exercises, including your voice, speech and movement work.
- Absence from or lateness to rehearsals is considered unacceptable.
- Students are asked to respect their fellow students and the classroom/rehearsal space.
- All students are responsible for being prepared and ready to work and devote their FULL attention to the task at hand.
- No one shall appear at any rehearsal, crew call, or performance under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
Rehearsal Guide for Stage Intimacy and Communication
The spaces used by the Theater School are in constant use by all of us. It is necessary for each of us to be considerate and thoughtful in the use of these spaces. Your tuition covers the cost of maintaining these spaces; you can help minimize these costs by observing a few basic guidelines:
- Food is not permitted in classrooms or rehearsal spaces, unless specifically used in the work. Food causes tremendous health problems because it attracts insects and bacteria that thrive in our warm climate. Water in a closed container is permitted, just be sure to remove the container when you leave the space.
- Leave the space as you found it or better. Throw out your trash, clear all furniture to the sides of the room and turn off the lights when you leave. Store rehearsal props in an appropriate container. Be a responsible Artist!
- Absolutely NO personal pets or animals in classrooms or rehearsal spaces.
Classroom and rehearsal space are very limited and must be reserved in advance. Priority is given first to classes, then to curricular productions, and finally to outside projects. The space board, through which Theater School spaces are allocated, is located on the first floor outside the Theater School office.
Space may be signed out on the space board on a daily basis. Each week’s schedule will be posted by 9am Monday for the given week. For some spaces, advanced requests may be submitted via email to the Space Board coordinator by 6pm Friday for the following week. Approval is based on availability, priority, and the order in which requests are made.
DO NOT enter a space unless you are scheduled to be there. Classes are never to be disturbed. If you have reserved a rehearsal space and are not using it, please remove your name from the board. Spaces must be left clean, furniture cleared to the sides of the room, and keys returned immediately to the Theater School office/Campus Safety, or future access to that space will be denied.
