Homework Policy:
Students in 5th grade are held to high expectations. Students will also have 15 to 20 minutes of math. They will have a study hall time (most days) at the end of the day to work on homework. What they do not complete will need to be completed at home. They will have four spelling assignments due at the end of the day on Friday. They will have time in the morning to work on their spelling. Whatever is not completed in class is homework. When homework is not completed they will have to bring it in the next day. Any late work is ten percent off of their grade until it is turned in. Please communicate with me if there are home issues as we can be flexible with crisis like situations. I hope students will learn to manage their time as this becomes a great life skill to obtain.
Birthdays:
We do not do individual birthday parties. If you would like to bring something like cookies, or doughnuts, or cupcakes, please have your child bring with them at the start of the day. We will have a few minutes at the end of our day. We will sing and the birthday student may pass out the treats as students leave for the day. Please do not bring a cake to be cut or ice cream to be served, it needs to be individual quick treats as time is an issue.
Backpacks:
Each student will be assigned a locker with another student. They will be able to store their backpacks there for the school day.
Desks: Only bring in minimal supplies and your lunch box. These will be kept in your desk only. Thank you. Please keep the bulk of your supplies at home and bring those items in when you are running low.
Since we move from class to class in 5th grade you will have several desks. You will use the desk you are assigned for each subject as your personal desk. Students will put personal items in your homeroom desk only. Do not leave important personal items in your desk. Take those belongings with you. This allows you to be responsible for your own stuff, and not worry about others touching your stuff, or stealing your personal items (happens often sadly), accidentally storing food for the mice, and having papers getting lost in a desk.
