While researching parent involvement in special education, I found that many parents felt they had to educate themselves on special education and a child's disability with minimal help from school districts, but wished that more information was provided for them from their school team. I also discovered that nationally parents were unaware of the vocabulary school personnel were using during meetings which impeded their involvement. I know that parent involvement in a child's education is one of the keys to a child's success in school and beyond, so I encourage your input through out the evaluation and special education process. I would also like to make the transition into the special education world a bit easier if I can so I am providing you with a few tools and websites that may be helpful. If you would prefer to have paper copies of information please contact me because I do hard copies of resources available as well.
