Attendance, Tardiness: Attendance and timeliness are expected. Please see the Student Handbook for the official policy. Please send in a doctor’s note to get absences excused.
Missed Exams or Assignments: Missed exams and assignments can be made up. All homework is due the day the student returns to school. All missed tests must be taken within two days of returning to school.
Class Participation: Students are encouraged to be active participants in the classroom in whatever way is appropriate to them. Participation helps the students to learn and apply what they have learned and practice communication skills needed for life and future careers. Participation also helps the teacher assess the student. Participation does not have a formal grade in this class, but is observed and noted by the teacher.
Homework: as per district policy, homework shall have a specific academic purpose and will be scored in the following manner:
Homework shall account for no more than 10% of a student’s grade calculation.
Homework will be given a grade of 0, 50, or 100 based solely on completion.
100% -attempted with full effort
50% - attempted, but not with effort
50% - assignment turned in one day late
0% - more than one day late.
Homework assignments that are graded for accuracy or long-term homework assignments (i.e. projects) will be included in the student’s developmental assessment grade.
Midterm and final exams may be cumulative or based on the latest unit only. If the student participates in class and completes homework, the student will be prepared for exams. Study guides will be provided as homework. A project may also be used as an exam.
Grading Scale for the Self-Contained Classes
This grading system will assess the students in the high school self-contained classes.
Notes:
The grades are automatically converted to grades in the PowerSchool system so that the students will have a generated GPA for graduation. The grades are in parenthesis under “Grade Points”.
