Psych movies is a series of films which are in some way related to psychology.
They are being screened as a way of extending your understand of the many areas in which psychology relates to the real world.
Here are the first 6 in the series. Sixth form only, screened in B3, bring your own popcorn!
First film - The Stanford Prison Experiment

Second film - Memento

A ingenious film which takes the issue of problems with transferring memory to the long memory store and puts it into a dark setting. A film that often bears a second watching and requires your attention if you are to really follow it.
Third film - 12 Angry Men
Screening on Wednesday 11th of October in B3 3:30pm
The seminal film demonstrating the effect of minority influence in a real-world setting, the court room. A man’s life is at stake, the jurors have heard the evidence and now must decide. Most seem willing to convict out of hand but one does not, can he sway them to his point of view, can he save the man’s life just with his words?
Fourth film - A Beautiful Mind
Screening on Wednesday 18th of October in B3 3:30pm
A journey through the life of a great man, a man whose theories will affect the way in which governments rule and make decisions, yet a man haunted by mental health issues. What is his story and how did he cope?
Fifth film - One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest
Screening on Wednesday 1st of November in B3 3:30pm
Take a step back in time to a the mental health care as it was in 70’s America, where the treatments may sometimes worse than the condition. Murphy’s attempt to play the system and get out of jail by playing the “crazy card” is just the start of his story.
Sixth film - Trainspotting
Screening on Wednesday 8th of November in B3 3:30pm
A hard hitting story of the effects drug addiction, set in 1990’s Glasgow you follow the life of a group of heroin addicts, looking at the destructive effect whilst also considering why they return to the drug that cause them so much harm.
