Students will need to build their vocabulary, reading comprehension, writing, and math skills to score well or proficient on the assessments.
The assessments probe the students’ ability to read complex text. Complex text contains longer sentences, higher use of less-frequent words, and a greater number and variety of words with multiple meanings. Close analytic reading will require students to read and reread deliberately to methodically examine the meaning of the text. The close reading will require students to write by citing evidence from the reading and support their answers with details found in the text.
Students should be able to recognize and understand the central ideas and key supporting details within the text to answer questions and write their responses.
