We would like to invite all of you to help us wish the Bicentennial babies a happy 40th birthday! Join your classmates from the classes of the 1990s at a generational happy hour this summer. The event is being organized by the Class of 1998, and co-hosted by bar owner Joel Tompkins (Brown '98), in celebration of our classmates' 40th birthdays this year. It's a great opportunity to catch up with classmates you might not have seen in a while, and you don't need to travel back to Providence to do it, just to Brooklyn. Let's prove to the world that New Yorkers do cross water after dark. Come catch up with old friends, have a slice of birthday cake, and raise a glass to dear old Brown.

6/28/12 - Class of 1998 15th Reunion Less Than One Year Away
It’s hard to believe, but we have less than one year to go until our fifteenth reunion. Although formal reunion planning is still in the works, and registration for on-campus events will not begin for another several months, we have already begun making arrangements to assist those of you planning to return to campus for our upcoming reunion next May.
As always, you will have the option of reserving space in the dorms. However, for those of you looking for alternative arrangements – particularly those of you contemplating a trip with young children in tow – we wanted to let you know that we have reserved blocks of rooms at three area hotels. In addition to being available at a discounted rate, compared with traditional prices for rooms over Reunion and Commencement Weekend, these rooms also offer you the benefit of staying in close proximity to, and coordinating travel to and from campus with, your classmates from the Class of '98.
Booking links and details on the rooms are below, but in all three cases, the blocks are for two-night minimum stays, meaning you would, at the very least, arrive on Friday, May 24, 2013, and stay through Sunday, May 26, 2013. Two of the hotels are located in Downtown Providence; a third option is located a short drive from campus, but offers rooms at a significant discount.
RENAISSANCE PROVIDENCE DOWNTOWN HOTEL – Block of 20 rooms
This is a group block of rooms with a minimum length of stay of two nights. The rate the hotel is offering our classmates is $309 per night. Any rooms not picked up by April 11, 2013 will be released back into the hotel’s inventory for general sale. 45 days prior to arrival, the Hotel will charge the credit card used to secure the rooms for the full amount of the reservation.
The booking link for the Renaissance Providence Downtown Hotel, utilizing the class discount, is here.
WYNDHAM GARDEN PROVIDENCE – Block of 10 rooms
This is a group block of rooms with a minimum length of stay of two nights in either 2 double beds or 1 king bed. The nightly rate the hotel is offering our classmates is $299.00 for City View Rooms and $319.00 for Harbor View Rooms. (Rooms are also available for the preceding Thursday night, 5/24/13, at the rate of $129 for City View and $149 for Harbor View. However, any guests staying on for Sunday night, will pay the $299/319 rate.) Guests will have the option of upgrade to Harbor View, this is not mandatory. Any rooms not picked up by March 1, 2013 will be released back into the hotel’s general inventory and anyone calling after the cutoff date will subject to the standard rates of the hotel.
The booking link for the Wyndham Garden Providence, utilizing the class discount, is here.
COURTYARD BY MARRIOTT LINCOLN – Block of 15 rooms
This is a group block of rooms with a minimum length of stay of two nights. Ten of the reserved rooms have king beds; the other five have either doubles or queen beds. The rate the hotel is offering our classmates is $125 per night. Reservations must be received by April 10, 2013; after this date, reservations will be available on a space and rate available basis only.
There is no unique booking link for the Courtyard by Marriott Lincoln, but to take advantage of the class discount, when booking your reservation, just mention that you are a part of the “Brown Class of 1998” group. The hotel’s phone number is (401) 333-3400
We will post this information on our class' website shortly, so if you're not yet ready to think about reunion attendance just yet, you can find the hotel information down the road without having to dig through your inboxes.
Best wishes for a wonderful Independence Day!

8/18/10 - San Francisco Area Potluck for Classes of '97, '98, '99 and '00
Brown alumni of the Classes of ‘97, ‘98, '99 and '00 and their friends and families are cordially invited to a potluck gathering on Sunday, October 17th, 2010, from 2:00 – 4:00 pm in San Francisco.
Building off the success of last year’s Class of 1998 potlucks, we are looking to expand the event to include more local alumni, especially those from neighboring classes whom we might not get to see back at campus, since we don’t all share a reunion cycle. As was the case last year, there is no cost to attend. It is requested that you please bring a dish to share; however, don’t let that keep you from stopping by! This gathering will be held outside, so while we are really hoping to catch the tail end of San Francisco’s “summer,” you may want to dress in layers, just in case!
Who: Brown U. Alumni of ‘97, ‘98 and ‘99
What: Potluck Gathering
Where: Noe Valley/Mission neighborhood of San Francisco (precise address and directions to be provided upon RSVP)
When: Sunday, October 17th, 2010, from 2:00 – 4:00 pm
Please RSVP by Friday, October 8, 2010. We’d appreciate it if you would indicate how many adults and children in your party, so we can notify the attendees of a final head count in advance of the potlucks.
Ever true,
Valerie Phillips, B'98
Class President
P.S.We are hoping to have more of these events throughout the year (such as a San Francisco version of the Class of '98's NYC Wine and Cheese Night. If you have the space and are willing to host an event in the San Francisco bay area, please contact Carolyn White or Class President Valerie Phillips.
9/16/09 - Bicoastal Potlucks a Success!

7/20/09 - Bicoastal Potlucks
We, your class officers, have been trying to think of a way to get our classmates together on non-reunion years without draining the class treasury and at no great expense to your good selves. So we’ve come up with an idea, and we’re giving it a try: on Sunday, August 23, 2009, we’re hosting two potluck lunches: one on the East Coast and one on the West Coast.
You, your friends, and your families are invited to attend. Meet fellow Brunonians, bring a dish to add to the table, and enjoy an afternoon potluck with one and all. (If you don’t live near NYC or San Fran, we’re sorry. Assuming these events are successful, we’ll try to host future events within driving distance of wherever you live. Also, if you’re interested in hosting a Class of 1998 event, please let us know!)
