2004

Jane Sharp I wanted to take a moment to share what I have been up to since May of '91. I am one of the 16% who went into medicine - OB/GYN in my case. During residency I met and then married an amazing man, Charley Rardin, who - 8 years and 2 children later - still makes my soul sing. Last year, we were seduced away from our entrenched state in Boston to Providence of all places. We thought we would miss Beantown, but find we love it here. Charley is on staff at Women and Infants' Hospital in the Urogynecology division. I am with a wonderful private practice group and get to teach residents as a member of the hospital's voluntary staff. We live close enough to theBrown stadium to listen in on games. Best of all, my 5-min commute and 30-hr work week have allowed me more time to spend with our two boys, Gavin 2-1/2yr and Miles 6mo. I am finally emerging from the communication black-out that was medical education and training. If any long lost friends wish to forgive me, I would love to hear from them at jane_sharp@cox.net.

Beth Soucar On November 13, 2004 I married my husband Angelo in Collingswood, New Jersey. Three years ago, Angelo and I met and fell in love through ballroom dancing. As you can imagine, dancing was a major element at our wedding. We took many weeks of private lessons so that we could perform a Paso Doble for our guests. Some of our wedding photos are posted at www.bethandangelo.com. In the professional arena, I am in the data collection process for my doctoral dissertation in counseling psychology at Temple University. My research team and I are studying the effectiveness of a psychotherapy approach called "Control Therapy" with African American outpatients at a clinic operated in North Philadelphia. We see this approach as engaging clients in a culturally sensitive and empowering process. This work has challenged me to grow both personally and professionally. We will be presenting some of our ideas at Columbia U. Teacher's College in February.

Jeanie Chang Dana Burd & I ran into each other at the tenth year reunion. He was in Oakland & I was in Philadelphia, so at first we emailed for a few months. Then there were many transcontinental visits & the next year we moved to Boston together. Dana's VP-product management at a startup called Gotuit (software that indexes cable television content) & I’m a vascular surgeon (plumber of arteries & veins). We were engaged in July 2004 while sailing in the British Virgin Islands. We're contemplating a change--maybe humanitarian work in Southeast Asia or building a smokehouse in the midwest....

Amy Carden Suardi We were thrilled to welcome our second daughter, Virginia, to the world in December 2003. Sofia (2 1/2) is handling the invasion quite well. I have been teaching and writing in Milan for the past four years, but in November 2004 we will be packing up and moving back to the U.S. It will be a bittersweet move as we have been very happy here, but I am looking forward to being closer to friends and family.

Gayle Weiswasser My husband Dan Feldman and I welcomed baby twin girls into the world on May 7, 2004. Madeleine Eliza, 5 pounds 10 ounces, and Alexa Sahara, 4 pounds 10 ounces, are doing well and are absolutely adorable. They look forward to meeting lots of Brown friends over the coming weeks. (see photos under "About Us" and "Photo Gallery")

Colin Credle After 9/11, I was approached to return to Tajikistan as Program Manager for Project HOPE's Humanitarian Aid Program. In the three years I have been working here, I've supervised the delivery of more than $62 million of donated medicine to hospitals all over Tajikistan. I also got married to a lovely young librarian named Zarinamokh Mirzoeva. My travel schedule remains zany, but fascinating. I spent a week in Kabul not too long ago, next week I am returning to Uzbekistan for more deliveries. My contract ends in November. Zarina and I plan on going home via Singapore, New Zealand, Hawaii and San Francisco if she can get all her visa ducks lined up. I'm looking forward to being back in the US for the first time in awhile.

Rob Sokolic Stayed at Brown for MD. Am now finishing 8th year of post-graduate medical education, with goal of finishing before 10 years. Residency in Medicine at Penn, Fellowship in Heme-Onc at Sloan-Kettering, 2nd fellowship at NIH in Stem cell transplant. Working on Stem cell transplant and gene therapy for human and canine leukocyte adhesion deficiency. Married to Yvonne Mark 92'MMS97'MD97 in 2001, who works at Johns Hopkins University Student Health and Wellness Center. Living in Rockville, MD, moving to Columbia, MD

Judy Siviglia In '91, I moved to Boulder, CO and put my education to good use waiting tables and tending bar till I figured out I wanted to be a journalist, went back to school in '93 to get a masters from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where I met the love of my life (though I didn't know it then,) and knocked around a bit more - Alaska, Denver, San Francisco, Africa - trying to find work as a photojournalist, before moving back to NC in '96 to take my first full-time job as a photographer at a crappy little paper and be with Anna, my honey, also a journalist. I got a better job at a bigger paper and eventually moved to the online department, where I produce multimedia projects. In the meantime, Anna and I got hitched on the fabulous Block Island in April 2001, with many Brownies in attendence, and gave birth to the phenomenal Griffin in March, 2003.

Jonathan Huyck I'm now the Rev. Jonathan Huyck and serve as the Episcopal Chaplain at NYU. If you're an Episcopalian and you're studying at NYU, I'm your man (except the Dental School - they have their own Episcopal chaplain). I'm also engaged to Ann Ditmars (Princeton '96) who has her very own Subway stop in Queens. We're like royalty out there.

Matt Hoffman In 2003, I joined Chris Regan '91 as a partner in Tower Hill Development, a real estate development company based in Baltimore. We are focused on urban redevelopment projects in the heart of Baltimore, bringing new life to old commercial and residential buildings. Come visit us at Copra, our first restaurant development project just a few blocks north of the Inner Harbor, soon to be followed by a wine bar across the street.

Tom Huntington Our second child, Robin, was born on January 27th 2004 and two is MUCH more work than one. My company, Quantum Bridge, finally emerged from the tech rubble to announce an acquisition by Motorola.

Abby Marr After graduation, I stayed at Brown for an extra year and finished my MA in Comparative Third World Development. Since then, I've worked in media start-up ventures in NYC including Vibe, Martha Stewart Living and TheStreet.com. Along the way, I got an MBA from Columbia ('98), got married, and had three kids! Jamie is 4, Lucy is 2 and Matthew is 8 months.

Jello DeVaris moved to California to teach English as a second language and become a surfer, then migrated South to Ecuador where she became a legendary surfer "La gringa rubia" who survived multiple escapades and falls off of balconies. Finally decided to get a masters in teaching and moved back to NYC to get her degree at NYU. Her reputation in the water followed her and she is subsequently of legendary surfer chick fame (see the NY Post) in Montauk, Long Island where she teaches Spanish, bikes 50 miles to work each day (crazy!!), and teaches surfing lessons. NY is too cold for Jello's bones now and she is currently contemplating relocating to the West for warmer weather, the surf, and hotties on the beach.

Erica Smock attended Columbia Law School and graduated in 1995. She currently works as a lawyer at the Center for Reproductive Rights in New York City. She is married, and has a son, Jack, who was born in October 2003.

Emily Murphy Chamberlain I just had my third boy! Tommy is doing well and is totally adorable. He is six months, James is 9 and John is 6. We are in full baseball mode. I am also practicing law part time and sit on the boards of a few non-profits. We have a new carriage house and welcome any visitors who would like a weekend in beautiful Jamestown or Newport. Kevin and I enjoyed the 88's 15 year class reunion last year and I am psyched to hear about our class now.

Tracey Scronic After graduation I hightailed it to Spain where I hid out working for Grey Advertising in Madrid for four years. Later, I lived and worked in the fabulous town of New York City - a place I love and miss dearly. Recent news is that I married Joseph Jaffe on November 1st, 2003 in the presence of many enthusiastic Brunonians. Joe and I are currently living in Somerville, MA while he completes his undergraduate degree via the resumed education program at Tufts University, and I work for a small boutique ad agency. We are counting the days until we can return to our home in DUMBO, Brooklyn.

Leslie King Since 1997, I've been an ER MD based in Portland, Ore. Contract work with Native American tribes takes me frequently to remote locales throughout the West and Alaska, though PacNW adventures are nearing an end as I'm prepping to pursue journalism, specifically Columbia's Health and Science Journalism, in the coming 1-2 years. Happily remain among our class' unmarried, childless minority.
