DAVID FULLER's novel, SWEETSMOKE (Hyperion), is now out in paperback. Originally released in hardback in September, 2008, SWEETSMOKE was a Discover Great New Writers choice for Barnes and Noble as well as an Original Voices pick for Borders. It was reviewed (positively, thank you) by the New York Times Book Review, USA Today, The Atlanta Journal Constitution, and The Minneapolis Star Tribune, among many others. SWEETSMOKE was nominated for an Edgar Award for Best First Novel by an American Author, as well as a John Creasey "New Blood" Dagger Award in Great Britain (winner to be announced October 21, 2009).
"SWEETSMOKE is a fascinating and gripping novel about the Civil War. The slave, Cassius Howard, is a great fictional character, and his story is part mystery, part love story, and a harrowing portrait of slavery that reads with the immense power of the slave narratives. A tour de force for David Fuller."

STEVE "BUDDY" GRECO writes "It's hard to believe that it has been 35 years since we graduated. I have always looked forward to Reunion Weekend at Brown. I have attended several over the years. I was at the 30th and others since then. It is always fun to catch up with old friends. This upcoming Reunion Weekend will be especially remarkable for me. I am getting married on the Brown campus on Friday May 28th early evening, just before the campus dance. Brown has become a special place for my fiance Audrey and I over the last few years. The exact site on campus and the time are tentative at this moment. We are hoping to have the ceremony at the site of the old Delta Tau Delta fraternity (South Wayland). Hope to see you all soon. I can be reached at njabm@comcast.net"
BARBARA HIRSCH HARRISON writes " My first book will be published two weeks before our 35th reunion and should be in the Brown Bookstore. WHAT TO DO WHEN NO ONE HAS A CLUE (Random House) offers smart, savvy solutions to everyday situations that baffle and
bewilder us all. At last, here's the go-to guide for stumpers like "Who gets the dog in the divorce?" and "How do you handle the transgendered bridesmaid?" and "Is it okay to text bad news? (If so, how bad?)" Expert advice comes from people like Arianna Huffington, designers Badgley Mischka, restaurateur Danny Meyer, event producer Colin Cowie, two of the "Real
Housewives of New York City" and at least 7 Brown alumnae -- including Diane Jass Ketelhut from the class of 1975. For a quick laugh, check out the book's 3-minute YouTube video at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ihnwfFx-P4Y
BARRY HELLER writes "I am working as an Emergency Physician at a busy urban trauma center in Long Beach, CA. In addition I was recently elected as a director to the American Board of Emergency Medicine, which oversees the training and board specialty certification of Emergency Physicians. I continue to perform with my partners in a group called Risus Sardonicus which provides a variety show of medical music and comedy (hopefully) for medical conferences across the country. My wife, Jill Lerner is an attorney and head of Human Resources at Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer, Inc. My son, Eli, 19, is a sophomore at Colgate University, apparently majoring in either Political Science or The History of Beer. My other unemployed parasite, daughter, Molly, age 16, is a junior in high school and turns out to be a fabulous little actress and singer (so says her unbiased father). She recently returned from a semester on a Kibbutz in Israel and fell in love with the country and the culture. She is even considering combining her passions and exploring a rabbinical education. Most importantly, everyone is happy and paying attention to the little moments that make up a lifetime. I would love to hear from friends and classmates and hopefully will have the opportunity to see many of you at the reunion. (really, though, it’s our 15th, right?)"
THOR JOHNSON writes "I’m in Rhode Island full time, still married to Maureen, with our girls Honore, now 16, and Hope, 13. I’m the only male in the house – even the dog is a girl doggie. Honore is an avid sailor and disciplined student (unlike her dad), while Hope is an actress, dancer and major Type A personality. We live in a pretty little Rhode Island seaside community on Narragansett Bay and can see Newport from our porch – and from my home office.
I finally got out of the venture-backed-equity-startup-company mayhem and am building my own marketing consulting agency. We focus on an arcane, but growing field known as marketing automation: the art and science of personalized marketing in an online/internet world. We’re on the web as RenaissanceOPTI. My previous software company, Eloqua, became a leader in the field, while leaving its customers to figure out themselves how to actually use all the products they bought from them. So now I can help them succeed. It’s moved more quickly than I had a right to expect: we already have our first clients and I’m soon taking an office nearby to get out of the house and keep my sanity.
This past year I spent quite a bit of time in China working in the mobile phone business. So intoxicating – I’d like to find a way to go back. My ‘beat’ these past five years has been Toronto, Amsterdam, London and Singapore. But now it’s New England (and Toronto). In fact, I have been living and working in the same country (Yes, Rhode Island can be considered a separate country.) for over a year now and am loving it. ‘Bout time. The kids grow so quickly.
Swimming has been a passion since grade school, but this past decade, and especially the past few years, I’ve found a real love for long distance open-water (ocean) swimming. I get in about six ocean or lake miles a week and am faster than I’ve been since my 30s. It’s getting colder, but I did two miles in the Bay earlier this week. Back to the pool soon. Also addicted to Arduino. If you know what it is, you’re a geek and know what addiction means.
Hope this update finds you, my classmates, well. Brown email gets to me easily. Would love to know who’s doing what. Since I live in Rhode Island, I imagine that I’ll be looking for everyone at the Spring Weekend. Best wishes to all."

It's hard to believe that our daughters have grown up. Dana is 23, graduated from Smith College in 2008, and is a performance poet living in Seattle, and Liora is 21, a senior at Ursinus College studying photography and French. I am looking forward to restarting my private natural health practice in Boston. And I'm hoping to reconnect with Brown friends in the Boston area."
LAURIE LAMB writes "I recently returned home from Dana-Farber/Brigham & Women's Hospital where I had a stem cell transplant in hopes of curing my Primary Idiopathic Myelofibrosis. My bone marrow was no longer producing the blood cells that I need to live. The body tries to create the blood cells in other organs such as the spleen or liver but that doesn't work very well. There is no treatment. I am very grateful to my donor who was willing to offer and then give her perfectly matched stem cells to a stranger. Basically my immune system has been rebooted and my donor's stem cells are working to create a new immune system for me. I must be isolated for a year or more and have stringent restrictions on what I eat and drink as well as my activities, including visitors. I am grateful to be home and recovering. I'd love to hear from some classmates. Also please visit my CaringBridge website, provided by the hospitals, at www.caringbridge.org/visit/laurielamb There is a Journal there as well as a Guestbook. I'll be unable to attend our 35th Reunion but will be thinking of all of you that weekend. You can contact me at laurielamb@comcast.net.

To his great surprise, he has become an ice hockey fanatic: he is on the board that built and now runs the local ice rink, his three sons play representative ice hockey (Jesse, 16; Liam, 14; Benedict, 9), and he plays on an "old puckers" team. He doesn't mind being mistaken for a Canadian these days. Amazingly, business brought SPIKE KAPLANSKY to New Zealand several times this year.

JUD SAVISKAS has started a new company, Student Futures, Inc. which provides personalized, business-savvy career coaching to college students and recent grads - independent of college career services offices. College career services offices are usually not very effective, and Jud, his partner, and their coaches (all former corporate humam resources executives) saw so many unprepared and struggling students and recent grads that they set out to help. Designed to work via the internet and phone, their services are now helping students and recent grads of a long list of schools, including USC, Emerson, Middlebury, Indiana University, and Columbia. Maybe someday Brown, too, since there's been enough complaining about what Brown offers! Check out www.studentfutures.com.
SUE SCHLOTTERBECK ROSS writes "Life is busy in Seattle although I continue to miss people and places from back East. Our two children are both in high school now (interesting) and Anna will be off to college next year! Don't know where yet, but she is excited and hopes to go into international law. After 25 years in corporate life I decided it was time to try something different and "give back", as they say. I am now outreach manager for Residence XII, an alcohol and chemical dependency treatment center. It is one of the two oldest and largest such facilities on the west coast. After two weeks, it is very rewarding - and I have learned a lot. Change is good."

It differs from the other textbooks in the area in its focus on the intersection of business, law and drafting. Also, after 14 years of being an adjunct professor, I became a Professor in the Practice of Law at Emory Law School . I am also the Executive Director of school’s Center for Transactional Law & Practice. This new position meant a move from NYC where I’ve been living since we graduated.
