All health and social care programmes are professionally regulated and accredited. All of the regulators, whether that be the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) or the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC), which regulates 15 health care professions, have a role to protect the public. They do this in numerous ways including setting standards of education training and practice.
There are many standards set across the regulators but within them is an emphasis on the need to engage with Service Users in developing and delivering education and training programmes for professionals involved in the health and social care sectors. Specifically, the NMC requires approved education institutions to ensure that service users and representatives from relevant stakeholder groups are engaged in partnership in student recruitment and selection.
