Last week, we celebrated our School Fair Day! We had such a fun day having egg relay races, jumping in the bouncy houses, getting our faces painted, petting a cow, and eating slushies. In this picture, the class attended a dance party!
Last week, we started the week by going to Farmer’s Inn, where we had ice cream, visited the petting zoo, played on the playground, and we got to play mini golf.
Last week, we went outside for lunch, and the weather was so nice! We enjoyed a day away from the noisy cafeteria and in the warm sun!
Last week, we moved to the big gym and stage to practice our graduation performance. This was our first time on the risers! We’re really looking forward to showing off all of our singing and dancing for everyone this week!
Last week, we baked donuts for the “Donut Dance Party.” We had a great time mixing the ingredients and decorating them with icing and sprinkles!
Last week, we finished our Science Fair project, and we found out that the medium-sized wiffle ball bat hits the furthest. Then, we visited the science fair to see all the other projects the students did. It was really cool to see all the creative ideas they came up with!
Last week, we learned more about the Solar Eclipse that occurred. As a class, we tested out the strength of the sun by giving some construction paper a sunburn. We saw how the shapes blocked the sun, but the exposed paper lost its color. That’s why it is always important to wear sunscreen while spending time outdoors.
Before spring break, we had our outdoor scavenger hunt for finding all of our eggs at the playground. The kids had to search for all twenty-four hidden stations using their maps. Thanks again to everyone who donated items for filling the eggs!
Last week, we authored our story titled “Our Families from the Black Lagoon!” In this photo, all the students are holding up the Black Lagoon books that we have read so far! These books have been great inspiration for us to come up with our own silly and goofy stories!
Last Friday, we had an assembly where the students and the teachers competed together in a crazy balloon challenge! It was a wild way to end the week! The students who competed in our class did a great job!
Last week, Mr. Potato Head went on a field trip with us! He helped us learn about our five senses. We visited the cafeteria, the dumpsters, the playground, the front parking lot, and the main office. While walking around, the students helped put him together by using his body parts to name things we could hear, see, smell, taste, and touch.
Last week was Read Across America. We celebrated Dr. Seuss week, and we did a lot of activities to celebrate our love for reading and books. The Cat in the Hat surprised our class when we went to the book fair!
Last week, Mrs. Martini, our school nurse, visited our classroom to do a lesson on dental hygiene! She even brought along a giant mouth to show the kids where they need to be brushing. She wants every kid to remember that they need to brush twice each day!
We realized that there were lots of people in the school who don’t normally get Valentines, so we made a bunch for the secretaries, principals, cafeteria workers, special teachers, office staff, nurse, guidance counselor, and officers! The kids were so excited to write thankful messages that we delivered on Valentine’s Day!
This picture pretty much sums up the kids in this classroom! Last week, they teamed up to build a giant wall with the wooden blocks. I have never had a kindergarten class work so well together when they play. They share with each other, they communicate their plans, and they compliment each other’s successes. I have been so impressed with their teamwork this year, which is why I wanted you all to see this!
Last week, we celebrated Groundhog Day, and we found out spring is right around the corner! We used a spotlight to make shadows with our own groundhogs in the classroom.
Last week, we celebrated the 100th Day of School! The children dressed up to look like 100 year olds, and their outfits were fantastic! We also made crafts to go along with their age, so be on the lookout for that coming home. We also built a gigantic 100s chart that covered the the tile floor!
Last week, we had two virtual kindergarten days! It was so nice to see the friends who joined us on the video call to do their homework and learning activities. I was so impressed with how everyone acted, participated, and was attentive for all the activities we completed! Plus, we enjoyed learning more about everyone’s pets and families that they wouldn’t normally have for show and tell at school.
Last week, we did a science experiment to learn about hibernation. After learning about this winter event, we did a taste test with four different types of blueberries (regular, frozen, frozen in an ice cube, and with snow on top which was actually whipped cream). Did your child like any of these treats? Would a bear like them? Maybe that’s why they hibernate!
Last Friday, we had our “Show and Share” for the kids to bring in a Christmas present that they received. We had all sorts of toys, including stuffed animals, driving cars, games, trucks, dolls, and flying fairies! It was a great mix of toys! At the end, all the classmates got to share and play with their friends!
Before starting our Christmas break, we learned a little bit about snow, and then we got to have a snowball battle in the classroom!
We celebrated “Grinch Week” all week, with tons of reading, writing, math, science, and craft activities. For our last day of “Grinch Week,” there was a big, green creature that visited our classroom. He was as “cuddly as a cactus” and as “charming as an eel.” The Grinch and his sidekick, Max, visited us! Then we took a little field trip to surprise the other kindergarten classes.
On Fun Friday, we played a Rudolph Rhyming Game! We had to solve all the riddles to find the right nose for Rudolph to guide Santa’s sleigh!
Last week, we had a tiny visitor from the North Pole join our class! Forest the Elf was found hiding in our tree after we decorated it together as a class. He also brought a book for us to read.
Last week, our class built their balloon floats for our Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. Their creations really came to life!!
Last week, the children did an experiment called the “Tablecloth Trick” after we learned about Thanksgiving and setting a table for this holiday. This is the trick where someone pulls a tablecloth off of a table without the dishes crashing to the floor. How did your child do? Did they successfully do this trick or did their dishes fall? Are you brave enough to try this at home? (make sure to use metal pots and pans)
Last week, we learned about Veterans and how they keep us safe and protected. They work to protect the American Flag and everyone who is an American. Our class worked together to design and build an American Flag collaboration poster (in the background). It was cool to see how each child’s design came together in one final project.
Members of the Passages Child Protection agency have been in our school doing lessons over the last four weeks with several grade levels. Miss Alaina met with our class for four lessons where she taught our class about safety with fire, swimming with an adult around, gun safety, and safe and unsafe touches. We are very thankful to have them come into our school to teach us about some very important safety topics.
Last week was our Halloween Parade! The entire class looked amazing in their costumes, and they got so many compliments from other students and adults. It was a really fun day for us all!
Last week, we did a Nature Investigation where the students became nature spies. We looked at many nature items, and we always discussed if the item was alive or not alive and why. Then, in the spirit of Halloween, I ripped my zombie arm off so we could discuss if it was alive or not. You should have seen all their faces! Can you spot the zombie arm in this picture?
Last week was Fire Prevention Week, so several firefighters from the Brockway Firehall visited our school. They put their entire uniform on, and they explained how children should never be afraid of them, even if they look and sound a little funny. They also had lots of goodies for the kids to take home!
The janitors did not clean our classroom very well last week, and now there are spiders and cobwebs hanging all around the room! However, the spiders are perfect for the month of October, so we decided not to clean them up either. Thankfully, none of the kids have climbed the spider webs.
Last week, we did a science experiment to learn about the effects of wind. We tested different items to see how they stood up against a breeze versus a gust of wind. In this picture, the kids are trying their best to make wind, which is why their cheeks are puffed out!
Last week, on Fun Friday, we did our “Show and Tell” with the three things each kid brought in. It was so much fun listening to each student share their stories and their items!
Last week, we learned a lot about the American Flag. Ask your child how many stripes or stars it has. Then, we went on a walk to find flags. We found 72 American Flags around the school!
We had our Walking Field Trip last Friday. We visited the Police Station, and Officer Troy put everyone in the holding cell! The kids were full of smiles . . . . . until he closed the door!
Mrs. Sholes (our Guidance Counselor) visited our classroom to do a lesson. She taught us about her job and how she will help anyone at school.
We played “Get to Know You Yoga” where the kids had to perform different yoga moves to answer questions about themselves.
