Last week, we celebrated our School Fair Day! We had such a fun day tossing water balloons, jumping in the bouncy houses, getting our faces painted, and eating slushies. In this picture, the class played a game called “body bumpers.” The School Fair Day was a very memorable way to end our kindergarten year!
Last week, we had two field trips! We started the week by going to Farmer’s Inn, where we had ice cream, visited the petting zoo, played on the playground, and we got to play mini golf.
Last week, we had an outside lunch (for letter O day). The weather was so nice that we actually did it twice during the week. The entire grade, including the teachers, enjoyed a day away from the noisy cafeteria and in the warm sun!
We practiced putting our costumes on this past week, and we always go backstage to get ready. Our tie-dye shirts look amazing as our costumes!
Last week, we baked donuts for the “Donut Dance Party.” We had a great time mixing the ingredients and decorating with icing and sprinkles!
Last week, we finished our Science Fair project, and we found out that the medium-sized wiffle ball bat hits the furthest. Then, we visited the science fair to see all the other projects the students did. It was really cool to see all the creative ideas they came up with!
Before Spring Break, we had our outdoor egg hunt, and the weather was perfect! Our egg hunt involved a map that the students had to follow to find all of the eggs, but each kid did find all 24 of their eggs! Where was the hardest egg to find?
Last week, we took a short field trip to the Brockway Library! While we were there, the classes split up into two stations. In one room, they read books and did a craft, while the other room explored and played in the children’s toys and games section. We are very thankful for being able to do trips like this, and the kids are already excited for the next time we visit!
Last week, we started rehearsing for the Kindergarten Graduation Ceremony. It was a bit wild having seventy-plus children all in the same room to practice, but their singing really sounded amazing when they did it all together! As we practice more, I am sure you’ll start to hear some of the songs being repeated at home!
Last Friday was a strange day! We came in, and our classroom was destroyed with a bunch of green stuff! None of our traps caught the leprechaun either. However, that tricky leprechaun did leave a little gold for us. Where was the gold found?
Last week, Mr. Potato Head went on a field trip with us! He helped us learn about our five senses. We visited the cafeteria, the construction site, the front parking lot, and the main office. While walking around, the students helped put him together by using his body parts to name things we could hear, see, smell, taste, and touch.
Last week was Dr. Seuss week, and we did a lot of activities to celebrate our love for reading and books. You can see some of the books we read in the background of this picture. What is your family’s favorite book to read together?
Last week, Mrs. Martini, our school nurse, visited our classroom to do a lesson on dental hygiene! She even brought along a giant mouth to show the kids where they need to be brushing. She wants every kid to remember that they need to brush twice each day!
Last Friday, we did a cool Valentine’s Day science experiment to learn about static electricity. Each child got a balloon that they used to pick up mini-hearts. What did your child have to do to pick the hearts up? Then, we played “keep the balloon up!” Did they make it 100 seconds?
Last week, we learned about “Bossy e” and how it tells other vowels to “SAY YOUR NAME!” We practiced lots of these words, and we found a lot of “Bossy e” words in the room. We found a globe, pipe, time, snake, nine, five, and we even found Pete the Cat.
Last week, we celebrated Groundhog Day, and we found out we have six more weeks of winter! We used a spotlight to make shadows with our own groundhogs in the classroom.
Last week, we celebrated the 100th Day of School! The children dressed up to look like 100 year olds, and their outfits were fantastic! We also made crafts to go along with their age, so be on the lookout for that coming home. We also counted and graphed 100 different pizza toppings with our own giant pizza in the room!
Last week, we did a science experiment to learn about temperature. We used mittens in our experiment, so we read “The Mitten” by Jan Brett. After reading the story, we tried to see if our class could fit in a mitten, just like in the story. We stretched the mitten a lot, but we fit!
Friday, January 13
We did a science experiment to learn about hibernation. After learning about this winter event, we did a taste test with four different types of blueberries (regular, frozen, frozen in an ice cube, and with snow on top which was actually whipped cream). Did your child like any of these treats? Would a bear like them? Maybe that’s why they hibernate!

We had our “Show and Share” for the kids to bring in a Christmas present that they received. We had all sorts of toys, including stuffed animals, robots, games, art supplies, trucks, and dolls! It was a great mix of toys! When we were done, all the classmates got to share and play with their friends!

Before starting our Christmas break, we learned a little bit about snow, and then we got to have a snowball battle in the classroom!
Friday, December 16, 2022
We celebrated “Grinch Week” all week, with tons of reading, writing, math, science, and craft activities. For our last day of “Grinch Week,” there was a big, green creature that visited our classroom. He was as “cuddly as a cactus” and as “charming as an eel.” The Grinch and his sidekick, Max, visited us! Then we took a little field trip to surprise the other kindergarten classes.
We also did a science experiment for “Grinch Week.” After learning more about Whoville and why they were not sad about losing their gifts, we talked about how family is the most important thing in our lives (not the presents we get). Then, we helped the Grinch grow his heart using a balloon, baking soda, and vinegar. What happened next?

On Fun Friday, we played a spelling word game with snow! It was actually shaving cream, but the kids really enjoyed playing with snow without needing to wear winter gloves.
Friday, December 2, 2022
Last week, we had a tiny visitor from the North Pole join our class! Forest the Elf was found hiding in our tree after we decorated it together as a class. He also brought a book for us to read (at the bottom of the tree).

We had our Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade this week! The students (and adults) did an awesome job with designing and building some amazing balloon floats for the parade. Each idea was creative, fun, and exciting to build.
We also had our Charlie Brown Thanksgiving Feast this week! We loved the simple foods, like popcorn, jelly beans, toast, and pretzels, but the ice cream was probably our favorite! We were very thankful for all that we had!

Last week, the children learned about the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. We learned about how Tony Sarg started the parade with puppets and transformed it into what it is today. He even had the idea to use helium! In this photo, the class played a guessing game with many of the floats in the parade, and they learned about Tom Turkey who always starts the parade. But who always ends the parade?

Last week, the children did an experiment called the “Tablecloth Trick” after we learned about Thanksgiving and setting a table for this holiday. This is the trick where someone pulls a tablecloth off of a table without the dishes crashing to the floor. How did your child do? Did they successfully do this trick or did their dishes fall? Are you brave enough to try this at home? (make sure to use metal pots and pans)

Members of the Passages Child Protection agency have been in our school doing lessons over the last six weeks with several grade levels. Miss Alaina met with our class for four lessons where she taught our class about safety with fire, swimming with an adult around, gun safety, and safe and unsafe touches. We are very thankful to have them come into our school to teach us about some very important safety topics.

Earlier in the week, we did a "Pumpkin Investigation" where the students helped heal a "sick" pumpkin. However, the pumpkin did not like our medicine and it threw up! Yuck!
At the end if the week, we had our Halloween Parade! It was so much fun seeing all the great costumes and all the families around the school.
Friday, October 21, 2022
This week, we did a Nature Investigation where the students became nature spies. We looked at many nature items, and we always discussed if the item was alive or not alive and why. Then, in the spirit of Halloween, I ripped my zombie arm off so we could discuss if it was alive or not. You should have seen all their faces!

This week was Fire Prevention Week, so several firefighters from the Brockway Fire hall visited our school. They put their entire uniform on, and they explained how children should never be afraid of them, even if they look and sound a little funny. They also had lots of goodies for the kids to take home.

Last week, the janitors did not clean our classroom very well, and now there are spiders and cobwebs hanging all around the room! However, the spiders are perfect for the month of October, so we decided not to clean them up either. We did make some creepy spider hats, but thankfully, none of the kids climbed the spider webs.
Friday, September 30, 2022
With the spooky month of October approaching, we played a Haunted House themed game to practice sounds. We were even writing complete words!
Friday, September 23, 2022
This week was Open House, and this picture of the class was the one that was on the board in the classroom when you all visited. It was so nice to see all the children pointing out and naming their friends to their families.
We also played "Rhyme Time BINGO" on Fun Friday! We loved rhyming and earning treats at the same time.
Friday, September 16, 2022
We played a letter and sound game where the students had to operate on the letters like doctors. We used tweezers and pom-poms to help fix the letters!
Friday, September 9, 2022
We had our Walking Field Trip through Brockway, and we had a blast! We mailed letters at the Post Office, visited the kid section at the Mengle Memorial Library, ate snack at Paesanos, spoke with real firefighters at the Fire Station, and played at the Brockway Park. We were exhausted after a long day of walking!
Monday, August 29, 2022
Mrs. Sholes, our Guidance Counselor, visited our classroom to introduce herself to the class. She did a lesson about her job and how she can always be there for the kids of Brockway Elementary.
Thursday, August 25, 2022
This was our first week of kindergarten! We played "Get to Know You Yoga" to help the class get to know each other better. We made yoga poses to answer a bunch of yes/no questions.
