Letter U was for USA Olympic day, and we had a blast competing against each other in some weird competitions. After separating into the Red and Blue teams, we got our face paint ready and our game faces too.

Our field trip to the Kinzua Bridge was a major success! We loved learning at each station, but the skywalk was definitely the highlight of the day. So many students said that they want to go back this summer!
May 4 - 6, 2022
We celebrated letter K by kissing the PSSAs goodbye with Hershey Kisses. Then, we did magic and performed with musical instruments for letter M. We have some really talented students in 4th grade!

We had a happy surprise for letter H, which was having ELA class in the glow room! It was awesome to practice writing and other grammar skills while glowing. We also had the opportunity to play other fun games, like tic-tac-toe and Connect Four with glowing items.
April 14 - 25, 2022
We started our ABC Countdown to Summer! We flew airplanes in the room with a brand new and cool design for letter A. Then, we went outside and practiced our spelling words with chalk for letter C. We also had our donut dance party for letter D.

The Chairs finally went on strike! They were fed up with the students mistreating them! Thankfully, all the classes wrote persuasive letters to convince them to come back. The students were tired of standing, and now they know to treat their chairs with more respect. This was a really fun writing assignment for the kids, and their faces were priceless when they walked in the classroom.

Mrs. Sholes visited all four of our ELA classes today to do a lesson on the brain! We learned about the three parts of a brain, which were the prefrontal cortex (wise owl), hippocampus (elephant), and amygdala (guard dog). All three of these parts play a role in helping to keep us calm and in control of our emotions. We were practicing some strategies to help the children stay relaxed during their upcoming PSSA tests. We know if can be a stressful time of year, and we want everyone to be emotionally prepared for the future. The other images show some of the centers Mrs. Sholes set up around the class. The classes moved through each center to learn more about their emotions, the brain, and a variety of techniques for staying calm.
February 28 - March 4, 2022
We celebrated Dr. Seuss's birthday and Read Across America Week! We had a lot of fun dressing up for all the themed days we had, but our favorite was probably pajama day.
January 21 - 28, 2022
This week, we celebrated "Kindness Week" and the 100th Day of School! We combined the two into a six-day competition called the "100 Dollar Challenge." All four classes competed to earn dollars for their class by completing ELA activities and by doing kind things for their friends and for their teachers. The ELA Period 2 class won with 138 dollars! Then, for the 100th day, we wrote over 100 compound sentences about "Kindness Week" on a huge piece of paper.
December 17 - 22, 2021
Our homeroom class worked really hard to design and make a wooden snowman craft as a gift for their families. They turned out amazing! We hope each family enjoyed the gift.
December 17 - 22, 2021
We celebrated "Grinch Week" in our ELA class! We watched the old Grinch movie from 1966, and compiled a list of all the adjectives used to describe the Grinch. We also wrote a RACES essay about him and his actions. Then, before leaving for Christmas break, we learned how to draw the Grinch using a YouTube artist video. Finally, we had a snowball fight in the classroom to end our week.

We read a book called "Balloons Over Broadway: The True Story of the Puppeteer of Macy's Parade." The book was about Tony Sarg and how his idea changed the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade forever. His idea was to use helium in balloons with strings attached below the balloons. After reading and writing about Tony Sarg, we designed and built our own balloon floats. We had our own Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade through the school, and the classes loved showing off their balloons to their former teachers and all the other students in the school.

Today was our Halloween Party and Parade! It was a fun-filled day with games (like Halloween Charades, Eyeball Races, and Truth or Scare), a haunted Scooby-Doo movie, and lots of delicious treats!
It was so nice to have everyone dressed up for this fun day! We all enjoyed seeing so many creative and funny costumes!

Our classroom got attacked by spiders and all their cobwebs for this spooky month!
We also did an origami craft that turned into a vampire bookmark. One student took the craft a little further and made herself into a vampire!

For this week's activity, we used Sour Patch Kids to help us learn about independent and dependent clauses. Independent clauses are like adults and can be stand-alone sentences. However, dependent clauses are like Sour Patch Kids and depend on other words to help them become a sentence. We did a Google Classroom activity with this during the week as well, and the treats were a big hit!
Tuesday, September 21, 2021
This week, we learned about compound sentences. We used sandwich cookies to represent the two sentences being squished together, with an icing conjunction in the middle. We also added chocolate chips to remind us to always use a comma.

It was a great day outside, so our homeroom class travelled out into one of the courtyards to have class. Most of the students had not been in this courtyard before, so they really enjoyed being here for the first time!

Rylin's grandfather brought in her new puppy for everyone to meet! We had heard a lot about this puppy, so we were all really excited when she appeared. Luckily, there were no accidents!

We forgot to get a picture on the first day of school, so we settled for a second week of school picture! It was a busy start to the school year, but we are all enjoying a great start to fourth grade!
