Job Setting Placement

If you are employed in a school in a position that matches your major and the certification you are seeking, you might be able to complete your residency (final field experience and student teaching) in your own classroom.  These requirements would have to be met.

Ø  You must be in a regionally accredited school or GA PreK.

Ø  Your job position must match your major and the certification you are seeking.  For example, if you are an early childhood major, a special ed parapro job position would not match.  Your job position would need to be in a regular ed P-5 classroom, such as a kindergarten parapro.

Ø  The mentor teacher with whom you work must have a minimum of three years of experience and hold renewable Professional Level Georgia Teacher Certification in the content area of certification that you are seeking.  (For example, if you are an elementary major, your teacher must have a professional level, renewable GA early childhood or elementary certificate.)

Ø  All placement diversity requirements must have been met in your earlier field experiences.

Ø  Your school district and principal must agree to allow you to complete your student teaching in your current position.  This is between you and your district and principal.

It is possible that you could continue to draw your salary in this situation.  This is solely up to your school district.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                     If you think that you meet the requirements listed above and would qualify to complete your residency in your job setting, please contact the clinical office at coeclinical@brenau.edu.
