How has the Constitution been changed?
Complete a timeline on the Amendments to the Constitution
1. Start by reading Newsela "Primary Sources: The Constitution, Amendments 11-27"
2. Take the Newsela Quiz.
3. Get a cash register tape should be about 20 inches
4. Use a Yardstick and make a line down the left edge of the strip to make a timeline.
5. Mark one Inch per decade from 1860 to 2020
6. The orientation of the paper, lines, numbers, and information on the Amendments should be
portrait. (Long and thin)
7. Add these dates to the timeline
Civil War: 1861-1865
Spanish American War 1898
End of WWI: November 11, 1918
US entry into WWII: December 7, 1941
8. Go to Newsela or the Consititution Center
9. Start with the 13th Amendment and label each
amendment with its NUMBER.
10. Record the date it was ratified or approved.
11. Copy a short explanation of what each amendment did.
12. This is a functional assignment. Concentrate more on information than making it pretty.
