MLA 8 Breakout - The history of Mexican immigration from the Mexican Revolution to the Roaring Twenties.

Research in databases and books to create a Radio Broadcast.
REQUIREMENTS:
1. Everyone does his or her own research in required Google Spreadsheet.
2. Broadcast should be between 4 to 6 minutes.
3. Each group must turn in one script prior to broadcast. See rubric for specifics.
4. One topic per group.
5. Research should be scholarly - Consult databases, Library of Congress, and books.
Consider visiting the public library. Minimum 3, Use a variety of types of sources.
6. Each person should use attributive tags and/or parenthetical references to cite their quotes.
7. Follow a standard format for citation - Use MLA8.
8. Each person turns in his or her own works cited page.
9. It really helps to highlight domain specific vocabulary in the script.
10. Use Quote Sandwiches: attributive tag, quote, explanation.
11. Each group member must write and perform one ad.
a. It should be a product that existed in the 1920s.
b. Use the newspapers from the Library of Congress link below.
c. It should use at least one tool of advertising.
d. While it should contain some information from the primary source newspaper ad,
there should be be some original writing.
e. Be sure to cite the source. A parenthetical would be appropriate.
Creating your own Radio Ad
about a Product from the 1920s
Step 1: Find a product at LOC Newspapers
Set the dates from 1920 to 1922. (Warning- you will have to reset the dates for each search.)
Step 2: Search Terms
Think of a general product term.
Here are some ideas:
soap radio gifts
bath shoes bicycle
farm dress luxury
Step 3: Use the information to help you write your own radio ad for the product. Check the back of page 15 in your style guide for a tool of advertising. Remember to include at least one tool of advertising in your ad.
Each person in the group is responsible for his or her own ad.
