2nd Grade
In second grade music we continue to work to build fundamental skills for music. These would include:
Perceiving:
Identifying rounds and canons.
Listening to a variety of musical styles both new and old.
Learning and using music vocabulary.
Identifying patterns of same and different.
Exploring the sight and sound of a variety of music instruments.
Attending performances and listening for voices and instruments.
Producing/Performing:
Demonstrating rounds and canons.
Singing in the head voice.
Singing with good posture.
Singing and moving to a variety of musical styles.
Singing with accurate pitch.
Singing with accurate rhythm.
Reading music consisting of half, quarter and eighth notes and quarter rests.
Improvising and composing simple phrases.
Reading and writing pitches on the staff using solvege.
Playing classroom instruments with good technique.
Reflecting:
Discussing similarities and differences of different types of music.
Recognizing how music is used for occasions.
Discussing how music communicates feelings, mood, and images.
Interpreting music through dance, drama & art.
Discussing how music is similar & different than other arts.
Discussing how music ties to other school subjects.
