My name is Mr. Pierson and I would like to welcome you to my website! This website will give a brief introduction to myself, who I am as a person, and what my values are as a social studies teacher.
Who am I?
I am a recent college graduate from the University of Southern Maine from the teacher preperation program. Before that, I spent my first two years at Southern Maine Community College where I earned my associates degree(and saved a ton of money!)
Social studies and education is a large part of my life, but it's not the only part! I am a diehard Celtics fan. Basketball is a hobby I've had ever since I could remember. I coach high school recreational basketball through the town of Gorham during the winter! I also am a HUGE fan of games--especially board games and tabletop RPGs. Sports, games, and even social studies are all connected by human interaction--learning through a textbook or over a board game can open a student's mind to the world around them. Some other hobbies include gardening, traveling, and playing music!
What Will Social Studies Class Look Like?
It's my belief that through the lenses of social studies we can create and refine skills to understand the world around us. This year I'm going to ask all my students to do a bit of reading, a bit of writing, and a lot of thinking. As we move through the school year, we will constantly be working on fundamental skills that students will use in all future social studies courses--and more importantly in their lives. As we move through different units a constant focus throughout the year will be placed upon current events!
