If your child is planning on playing percussion in band, they will need to do a aptitude test for Ms. lisser or Mrs. carruci
There is no guarantee that your child will play percussion in band class, even if they are all ready taking private lessons.
If you are signed up for band, you should have a backup plan for a second and third choice and also a plan on how to get one of those instruments.
The size of the percussion section must be limited to ensure a balanced instrumentation.
Percussion includes drums, mallet instruments, and auxiliary percussion. This means that there are as many as 10 different percussion instruments that percussion students will learn to play in the first years of band.
Because of this percussion students are required to take private lessons.
Required Materials:
Percussionists are required to purchase a Vic Firth Standard stick bag which includes drum sticks, and three pairs of mallets. They also are required to have a bell kit at home, and a drum pad.
