My name is Mrs. Diana McGee and I am a sixth grade Mathematics teacher at Kerr Middle School. This year I will also be teaching the Leadworthy classes at Kerr. As the year begins, I would like to tell you a little about who I am and why I have chosen teaching as my profession.
I have been a teacher for 34 years, including 29 years in the Burleson School District. I have taught at Kerr Middle School since it opened. I received a Bachelor of Arts in Teaching degree, with a minor in Mathematics, from Sam Houston State University in 1979. I received my Masters in Curriculum and Instruction in 2000 from Texas Wesleyan University. I am certified to teach Gifted/Talented identified students and I have added an English as a Second Language certification to my teaching certificate as well. I am married and have seven children, four sons and three daughters as well as five granddaughters and eight grandsons. I tend to collect stray pets and currently have 2 dogs and 3 cats.
I enjoy spending time with my students and try to make my classroom a comfortable place for learning. I also take my role in the classroom very seriously. I believe it is not just my job to teach a subject. I believe it is also part of my job to help each student develop themselves into the best they can become. I have high expectations for each student’s academic progress. Every attempt will be made to provide each student with all the resources and support I have available so that they may achieve their best. I believe it is important to let my students know I appreciate their hard work and often recognize the progress being made by students that demonstrate they have worked hard and done their best.
I strive to show respect, empathy and compassion to each student and I expect them to do the same with other students and adults with whom they may interact. If they should choose not to treat others in this manner, I will hold them responsible for that decision while continuing to work with them to accomplish the goal of treating others in positive ways.
I love teaching and I enjoy getting to know my students. It is very important to me that each student knows I enjoy their company and that I recognize how special they are. I look forward to beginning a new year and discovering the variety each class brings.
I will maintain contact throughout the year with the parents of my students. If at any time you have a question or concern, please contact me. I will respond as quickly as possible.
Sincerely,
Diana McGee
