MN Career Information System

Legislation in Minnesota requires that ALL students develop a "Personal Learning Plan" (PLP) in high school. This is great for students because it guides them through the process of researching their career and college options...and using their findings to develop a personalized plan for themselves.

In MN, approximately 80% of school districts have elected to use Minnesota Career Information System MCIS as the system for students to create their PLP. This is an amazing site with loads of information and resources to help students with this process.

Each BEA student is given a personalized account in MCIS (beginning in 8th grade). They are also assigned a CORE/Adviser each year who can assist them with the development of their plan. Students have designated time throughout high school and during CORE/Advisory to develop their Personal Learning Plan. Parents are encouraged to get involved in the process and ask their student to share information about their portfolio in the Mn Career Information System. Begin to have conversations with your student about their preference for careers and college options.

Students will also receive guidance and assistance from me throughout high school. Please visit with your School Counselor, Teacher/Adviser or Principal for more information about: www.mncis.intocareers.org

Families are also encouraged to use the many other resources that can be found online to explore careers. Visit this page for a list of resources!
