The lab celebrated our annual Holiday tradition of Fishmas! We feasted and exchanged gifts. We were thrilled to be joined by several notable Lab Alums, Flora, Rachel and Ben!

We had a great time attending a dinner and ceremony for awardees of biomedical research awards from the Smith Family Foundation. Eric presented a great poster of the work in our lab supported by a Smith Odyssey Award. Thank you to the Smith Family Foundation for the fun evening and for their continued support!

We had so much fun at our annual off-site Lab Retreat! We had a day of planning, presentations, celebration and games (there may have been some Nerf guns!)

We are ecstatic to receive a MIRA R35 award from the National Institutes of Health! This major NIH grant supports our lab's discovery-based research for the next 5 years! We are so honored to receive this award and beyond excited to execute this project.

Yes, she left the lab already twice, but lucky for us she keeps coming back first as a tech then as a post-bac scholar. Now she's leaving for a third time, and we're wondering if this is just a scam to get more cake?
Joan starts a PhD program at University of Pennsylvania in the Fall! We miss you already, Joan and know you're off to more great things!

Sarah, Brian, Melody and Joan traveled to Vancouver (situated in the "other" BC!) for an amazing meeting of the Society for Developmental Biology and the Pan-American Society for Evolutionary Developmental Biology. Congratulations to Melody on her first poster at an international meeting!

The lab was thrilled to attend the first in-person Northeast Regional Society for Developmental Biology meeting since 2019! We had an incredible time learning about the great science going on in the region, and we presented two talks, including a fabulous talk by Melody Harper, and seven (!!) posters including five by our awesome undergraduates.

We wished a very sad farewell to Yinan, our postdoc of many years. A beloved fixture in the lab, Yinan will be greatly missed. We are excited for his new job as a Bioinformatics Scientist at Veracyte, Inc!

Joan has returned to the lab as a research associate following an internship with the Okinawa Institute of Science and Technology! Joan is funded through an NSF supplement to support Research Experiences for Post-Baccalaureate Students (REPS). We're delighted to have her back, and looking forward to her research contributions!
