Our Teams

Our unit has multiple extra-curricular teams, clubs, and activities for our cadets to join. Competitive teams can qualify for varsity letters, and the drill team earns physical education credit for their coursework and competition.

The Drill Team

Meets during Zero Period (0630-0730); students earn 0.5 PE credit.The principle purpose of drill is to promote teamwork, followership, leadership, and a sense of accomplishment. The team focuses on four primary elements: unarmed drill, armed drill, color guard, and exhibition, and competes with other units around the region and country. The competitive drill team is highly ranked and has won multiple awards at the Columbia Division Northwest Drill &Rifle Conference as well as The Nationals.

The Air Rifle Team

Precision Air Rifle Team

Meets M/Tu/Th 3PM-5PM, including range time and fitness training.The Air Rifle team, instructed by Lt Col Woodrow and coached by Mr Marc Ueltschi, is made up of Precision & Sporter classes. Both groups shoot on a 10-meter range with air-rifles using non-leaded pellets. Air Rifle is the fastest growing shooting sport in North America and one of the safest sports available.You can learn more about our safety by clicking here. The BGHS AFJROTC Air Rifle teams have won multiple awards, including National Champions in 2011, Western Regional Champions in 2015, and Division Champions in 2010, 2012, and 2015. The goal of the Air Rifle program is to teach range safety & develop skills that lead to being a capable and proficient shooter.

The Strength Team

Meets Mondays 3PM-4PM.

The Strength Team is part of the Columbia River District of JROTC teams and competes at all drill meets in three events; 1-mile run, cadence-count push-ups, and 2-minute sit-ups drill. The teams are co-ed; 3 boys and 2 girls, or 2 boys and 3 girls. The cadets embark on a weekly fitness regimen using similar physical standards found in the Armed Forces with the aim of improving strength and endurance.

StellarXplorers Team

Meets Weds 3PM-4PM and competitions on FridaysThe StellarXplorers program is sponsored by the Air Force Association and is designed to inspire and attract high school students to pursue studies and careers in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) through a challenging, space system design competition involving all aspects of system development and operation with a spacecraft/payload focus. The team receives problem solving exercises and competes in real-time with other teams from around the country.
