Which strategies best promote return to work for employees sick-listed with
chronic pain?
Psychologically and physically safe work is good for the health and wellbeing of most
people including those living with pain. Chronic pain remains the second biggest reason for
work absence, and is economically and psychologically costly to employees, employers, and
governments. But what works for return to work when people have chronic pain? This talk
outlines findings from my doctoral research with return to work stakeholders (employees
with chronic pain, occupational health doctors, occupational therapists and occupational
health nurses) about their perspectives on the most effective strategies to promote return
to work among employees with ongoing pain.
