4th grade orchestra registration

There are 2 steps you will need to complete to register your student in our program. Both steps need to be completed by 6/1/24.

Please join us for our optional Orchestra Family Night on Tuesday, May 14th at Grove Elementary School, 900 S Grove Avenue. Students will have the opportunity to try the orchestra instruments to help guide their instrument choice for next year. The orchestra facutly will be available to answer any questions, and our instrument vendors will be there as well. You may sign up for this optional event by CLICKING HERE.

This form enrolls you in the Barrington 220 Orchestra program. This form must be completed by 6/1/24 to be enrolled in our 4th grade program for the 2024-2025 school year. 

Step 2 - Renting an instrument and purchasing required accessories 

Your family will need to rent an instrument and purchase required accessories. We have 2 recommended instrument rental companies. Please do not purchase an instrument at this time. Stringed instruments come in fraction sizes so they are the right size for your student. Please follow our measurement directions below and use our recommended size when reserving your instrument and purchasing your required accessories. 

PLEASE NOTE: 

If you are attending our optional informational meeting, you might do this step with them in person.

Some students may have been sized during orchestra demonstrations at school. If so, please use the size indicated on your student's form from the demonstration. If not, please follow the quick and easy measuring guide below.

Required materials that should be included in your rental package:

  • music stand and carrying case

Measuring/Instrument Sizing Information: 

• Violin: Measure the arm length-  to measure the arm length, have the child stand up straight with their left arm extending straight out to their left, palm open upwards. Start measuring at the neck and stop the measurement at their wrist. 

  • • Less than 18-19" -- order a 1/4 size violin rental package

    • 20" and up -- order 1/2 size violin rental package

• Viola: measure the arm length- to measure the arm length, have the child stand up straight with their left arm extending straight out to their left, palm open upwards. Start measuring at the neck and stop the measurement at their wrist. 

  • • Less than 18"-19" -- order a 11 inch viola rental package

    • 20" and up -- order 12 inch viola rental package

• Cello-measure your student's height

  • • 3 ft 6 inch - 4 ft tall  -- order a 1/4 size cello rental package

    • 4 ft tall and above -- order a 1/2 size cello rental package

• Bass- all students should order a 1/8 size bass rental package
